You Don't Miss Your Water
22 December 2016 | by Prismark10See all my reviews

Mac Conway (Logan Marshall-Green) and his friend Arthur (Jamie Hector) have returned to 1970s Memphis after several tours of Vietnam with no heroic welcome, no jobs and an uncertain future. They are not popular with the locals because of an incident where they were accused of killing Vietnamese civilians.

With little going for them as well as post traumatic stress Arthur is attracted by a shady man called the Broker (Peter Mullan) to join him as a hired hit-man. When an assignment goes wrong and Arthur is killed, Mac by association becomes responsible for his debt, the money Arthur was paid to carry out the hit. Mac is given the code-name Quarry and just to cheer him a bit more he finds out that his wife is having an affair.

The first episode is very much routine depicting the life of returning Vietnam veterans in 1970s America, it was shown in films like First Blood.

It does capture a gritty and grimy Memphis but the central character Mac is colourless and dull. The pace was too slow and really did not pick up until the final quarter of the episode.
