A.J. Riebli III,
Pixar's unprecedented string of hit animated features was built on the short films in this collection. John Lasseter and Ed Catmull used these cartoons the way Walt Disney used the "Silly Symphonies" during the 1930s: as a training ground for artists and a way to explore the potential of a new medium. Although it's only 90 seconds long, "Luxo, Jr." (1986) ranks as the "Steamboat Willie" of computer animation: For the first time, audiences believed CG characters could think and feel. (It was also the first CG film to make audiences laugh.) The long-unseen films for Sesame Street are an unexpected bonus.
The Knick Knack short included is the 2003 remake made for Finding Nemo. The reason the original 1989 version isn't shown is due to controversy with the Miami girl and the Atlantis girl having exaggerated chests, (Which you can find on YouTube.) See more »
This is a collection of short animation films that Pixar produced.
I was particularly impressed by "Luxo Jr." and "For the Birds".
"Luxo Jr." is impressive because the film manages to convey personalities, emotions and communication without words or facial expressions. The two lamps are almost real life like. I am very impressed by how they build two characters and tell a story in just two minutes.
"For the Birds" is only three minutes long, but it already tells a lot of story. The little birds are really mean, and bullies the big bird. The big bird tries to be friendly, but is bullied by the small birds. The short animation is entertaining, and has a satisfactory ending.
