"Down and Yonder" is a story about two friends having a belated coming-of-age in their mid-twenties. When one of them becomes convinced to move away, they both begin to examine their futures. The film is about a friendship that becomes tested by time and distance, and it is ultimately a love letter to growing up in a small, Southern town.

But I had thought that there is only so much happiness to go around. A limited amount, ya' know? Your football team wins, some other football team loses. Somebody dies, somebody gets born. And that little bit of happiness that's possible here, we just keep stealing it back and forth from one another, and I think it's driving us all a little bit crazy.
