The New South

Some great men are made, others rise to the occasion. In Maynard, you discover a man who was in a hurry to change the course of history. It is more about than a story of one of Atlanta's most iconic figures. It is a story about a city that was wrangled to do the right thing. Maynard Jackson, Atlanta's first black mayor refused to follow the traditional role of city mayors. He sought change for a better tomorrow. His forward thinking has led to many of the things Atlantans take for granted today. A bustling airport, a link to the interstate highway system and a quality of life enriched by arts and culture. He died too soon but this movie will ensure we never forget this great man. Provocative movie that highlights the beauty of public service. I saw it as part of the 2018 Atlanta Film Festival.
