In the Dominican Republic, poverty is the way of life for many people. What would be considered simple, necessary medical procedures in the United States are often unattainable. Every year, the Volunteer Health Program (VHP) sends a force of medical and surgical eye care experts to the under-served. The patients of the clinic, the local health-care cooperators, and the local volunteers reveal the beauty of this island nation and all our shared humanity.
