Netflix Orders Ice Skating Drama ‘Spinning Out’ Starring Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts will star in an ice skating drama series that has been ordered at Netflix, Variety has learned.

The series, “Spinning Out,” stars Roberts as Kat Baker, an up-and-coming, high-level single skater who’s about to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and her new partner will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes.

U-Boat Drama ‘Das Boot’ Sold to More Than 100 Territories
World War II drama series “Das Boot,” which was produced on a budget of $33 million, has been sold to more than 100 territories worldwide. The show will debut on Hulu in the U.S. and pay TV operator Sky across Europe.

The series is produced by Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment, which distribution rights for the world, except for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, U.K., Ireland and Italy, where Sky holds the rights.

Territories sold to date include StarzPlay in France; AMC in Spain and Portugal; Epix/Viasat in Russia, Central & Eastern Europe; Di and Ma in Serbia; Czech TV in the Czech Republic; Vrt in Belgium; Nrk in Norway; Svt in Sweden; Yle in Finland; Ruv in Iceland; Mnet in South Africa; StarzPlay in Latin America; Sbs in Australia; and Tvnz in New Zealand.

Stephen King's 'Pet Sematary' Gets Its First Trailer — 'Sometimes Dead Is Better'

Stephen King is definitely on a roll — some would, of course, say he's been on one since he first arrived on the scene in the 1970s with the novel Carrie — with It being one of last year's biggest box office hits, and two streaming series in the form of Castle Rock and Mr. Mercedes currently airing. Well now we're revisiting some old territory via a trailer for the remake of Pet Sematary (the first version was released back in 1989). Paramount Pictures describes the film as follows: "Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. Stephen King's Tommyknockers Movie Gets Exorcist TV Show Writer
The Stephen King Renaissance that began in 2017 will resurge with a vengeance in 2019-and beyond. Fans of the bestselling author and Master of Horror can look forward to new seasons of Castle Rock and Mr. Mercedes, as well as feature film adaptations with It: Chapter Two and Pet Sematary coming down the pike in 2018, followed by The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep and From a Buick 8 in 2020. Add to this ever-expanding list The Tommyknockers, currently brewing over at Universal (who beat out Netflix and Sony for the property in a fierce bidding war).

The Tommyknockers will be written by Jeremy Slater who amassed a sizable and rabid following after serving as creator and showrunner for The Exorcist TV series on Fox. As for feature films, Slater wrote screenplays for The Lazarus Project, Pet, Death Note, and 2015's Fantastic Four (although we'll forgive him that last entry). In today’s roundup, HBO acquired the rights to the documentary “At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal,” and At&T Audience released the trailer for the second season of “Mr. Mercedes.”

HBO Documentary Films has acquired worldwide TV and streaming rights to “At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal.” The documentary explores the sexual harassment, abuse and assault U.S. female gymnasts endured at the hands of team doctor Larry Nassar, who was recently sentenced to life in prison for his crimes against more than 150 current and former gymnasts. Featuring interviews with survivors, the film will premiere in 2019.

Ava DuVernay’s ‘Central Park Five’ Adds Three, Including ‘Moonlight’ & ‘Fences’ Stars
The upcoming “Central Park Five” limited series at Netflix has added three more actors to its cast.

Felicity Huffman, Jharrel Jerome, and Jovan Adepo have all signed on to the four-episode series, which will be written and directed by Ava DuVernay. They join previously announced cast members Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo.

Based on a true story, the series will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.

Huffman will play Linda Fairstein, the prosecutor who headed the Manhattan district attorney’s sex crimes office during the case. Jerome will play Korey Wise, one of the wrongfully convicted five who was charged as an adult in the case and served twelve years in prison before being exonerated. Adepo will play Antron McCray, another member of the wrongfully convicted five, who was released after serving six years

‘Central Park Five’: Felicity Huffman, Jharrel Jerome & Jovan Adepo Join Ava DuVernay’s Netflix Series
Felicity Huffman (American Crime), Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight) and Jovan Adepo (Fences) have joined the cast of Central Park Five, Netflix’s limited series from A Wrinkle in Time and 13th director Ava DuVernay.

Based on a true story that gripped the nation, Central Park Five will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four episode limited series will focus on the five teenagers from Harlem — Antron McCray (Adepo), Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise (Jerome). The series will span from the spring of 1989, when each were first questioned about the incident, to 2014 when they were exonerated and a settlement was reached with the city of New York. The series will premiere on Netflix in 2019.

Exclusive: David Ayer is squeezing a gritty indie crime thriller in between directing Bright and its sequel. Ayer has begun pre-production on Tax Collector, a crime thriller he wrote and will direct in Los Angeles this summer with Shia Labeouf and Bobby Soto starring. Cross Creek Pictures is funding the film, which is a co-production between Cross Creek and Cedar Park Entertainment. Latter is led by Ayer and Chris Long, who just made a first look deal with eOne for television. Tax Collector harkens back to Ayer’s earlier gritty crime thrillers Training Day (which he wrote and Antoine Fuqua directed) and End of Watch, which Ayer directed. They are keeping plot under wraps. Cross Creek credits include Black Swan, Black Mass, American Made, and Hacksaw Ridge. Cross Creek has an overall deal at Sony.

“It’s a marvelous piece of work,” declares Emmy winner Holland Taylor of the drama series “Mr. Mercedes.” Taylor plays Ida Silver, the vibrant and nosy next door neighbor of retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) for Audience Network. Almost all of Taylor’s scenes occur with Gleeson, whom she cites as a “masterclass of acting” in our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above).

But Gleeson isn’t the only big name attached to the show. “Mr. Mercedes” reunites the actress with David E. Kelley, who gave Taylor her Emmy-winning role on “The Practice.” She prevailed in 1999 for Best Drama Supporting Actress, the same category in which she is eligible this summer. With this collaboration, they are bringing Stephen King’s trilogy of novels to the screen.
