Humphrey and Camille investigate a death in the Saint Marie Heritage Society.

The Sainte-Marie Heritage Society is celebrating the island's history with a traditional dinner but the members all end up with food poisoning and in the case of group president Francis Davison it is fatal. Suspects number Francis's teen-aged son Ryan, who argued with his father, club secretary Teresa Gower, who was embezzling funds, Francis's ex-mistress Inke and ex-military man Alan Burke, who left the group after a disagreement with Francis. Goodman must determine who is the killer whilst trying to fight his feelings for Camille.—don @ minifie-1

DI Humphrey Goodman and the team investigates the sudden death of Francis Davison, the president of the Sainte Marie Heritage Society. Several members of the group had fallen ill the previous evening, victims of food poisoning. Humphrey suspects foul play however as Davison had been in touch with him just an hour before he died saying he was being followed and that someone was out to get him. The doctor's report says he died from ingesting water hemlock and had a much larger amount of the poison in his system than anyone else. The police soon identify the person who was taunting Davison but the killer is to be found once Humphrey puts all the information together, courtesy of a leaky pen.—garykmcd

Humphrey needs the case to distract him from a dilemma concerning Camille's prospects for a Paris promotion. Davison's traditionalist ex-military predecessor Alan Burke hated how he took over during a family crisis and 'modernised' everything, teen son Ryan felt neglected despite being dragged to the island away from his life in England, getting attention only from secretary Teresa Gower, who was discovered embezzling society funds. Francis's Dutch ex Imke Sandt had another, but his medical situation might have motivated a suicide, while even the doctor and family friend has his own secrets.—KGF Vissers
