Bourne TV series Treadstone casts Jeremy Irvine and Brian J. Smith

Back in April, it was announced that USA Network is working on a TV spinoff of the Jason Bourne franchise entitled Treadstone, and now comes word that Brian J. Smith (Sense8) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) have been cast in the lead roles.

Treadstone “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins.”

Deadline reports that Smith will play Doug McKenna, an all-American oil-rig worker whose life changes after he discovers long buried truths about himself; Irvine meanwhile is J. Randolph Bentley, a spy who is dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target but instead finds himself embroiled in an international conspiracy.

Treadstone has been created by Tim Kring (Heroes) and has a full season order from USA Network. Production is slated to get

’22 July’ Film Review: Paul Greengrass Calms Down but Still Packs a Powerful Punch
Paul Greengrass is the master of the moment, of a muscular and immersive style of filmmaking that plunges us into the thick of the action. But “22 July,” the Greengrass film that premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month, is a movie not about the moment, but about the aftermath.

Make no mistake, “22 July” is also immersive and visceral. But in its slow move from action to consequences, from terror to something close to healing, it feels new from the veteran British director.

This might be the first Greengrass movie that doesn’t just make you flinch, it makes you cry.

‘22 July’ Director Paul Greengrass On Norway Terror Drama & Cinema’s Mission To Reflect The World – Venice Q&A
Exclusive: Oscar-nominated filmmaker Paul Greengrass is known for his urgent cinematic style — from the Jason Bourne movies to the real-life issues he has tackled in films like United 93 that mix his documentary roots with topics that represent world-altering events. His latest film, 22 July, which screens in competition today here at the Venice Film Festival, deliberately takes the pace down a notch to examine the aftermath of the 2011 Norway Attacks that left 77 dead when a far-right extremist detonated a car bomb in Oslo before carrying out a mass shooting at a teen leadership camp on the nearby island of Utoya.

With the film, the thoughtful, articulate and passionate Greengrass does cover the attacks themselves, then tells the story of what unfolded in their wake from the reactions of the government to the long trial and the story of one young man, Viljar Hanssen (Jonas Strand Gravli), who suffered severe injuries and

Director Paul Greengrass Tackles Norway’s Deadliest Terrorist Attack in ’22 July’ Trailer (Video)
Academy Award-nominated director Paul Greengrass tackles the true story of Norway’s deadliest terror attack since World War II in the first trailer for “22 July.”

On that day in 2011, a far-right extremist set off a car bomb in Oslo before carrying out a mass shooting at a leadership camp for teens. 77 people, many of whom were teens, were killed. The trailer, and the film itself, analyzes the attack through the eyes of one survivor, who has to go through a physical and emotional journey to heal.

“22 July,” which Greengrass also wrote, is based on the book “One of Us: The Story of an Attack in Norway — and Its Aftermath,” by Asne Seierstad.

Killing Off Daniel Craig's James Bond is a Desperate and Unecessary Move

  • Cinelinx
The James Bond franchise is no stranger to production difficulties, but the circumstances surrounding Danny Boyle’s departure from the latest James Bond films suggest that the venerable franchise might finally be nearing its end.

James Bond is among the most popular and recognized franchises in cinematic history. It has consistently released films over the past 56 years, which is something that no other film product has managed to do. Late 2019 is when we are supposed to expect the next installment to be released in theaters, but a number of troubling developments over the past few weeks have cast some doubt on that estimation. First, director Danny Boyle reportedly decided to drop out due to creative differences. We later learned that the particulars of these “creative differences” may have had to do with a decision on whether or not to kill off the main character.

Creative differences are one thing. It

Bourne spin-off Treadstone given series order

The Jason Bourne franchise has now expanded to television as USA Network has given a straight-to-series order for Treadstone, a spin-off series about the shadowy CIA program that Jason Bourne worked for as a covert spy and assassin. The series comes from Heroes creator Tim Kring and Universal.

Written by Kring, Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone — a covert program that uses behavior-modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.

Treadstone had originally been given a pilot order earlier this year, but USA Network decided to give it a straight-to-series order after Upc began to negotiate a deal with Amazon Studios for international distribution for the spin-off. Production on the series is expected to begin in 2019.
