Elles étaient en guerre (1914 - 1918)

It's obviously in French so I had to depend on English subtitles, but instead of reading the narrator I was enthralled more by the visuals from a 100 years ago. Because it focuses on the women, nearly all of the footage is behind the scenes of the Great War, and it is chilling to witness - the pain, the hardship, the loss, the spirit. We're lucky there exists video documentation that has survived. I'm Indian, and sometimes I wish we had more footage of our independence struggle the quality of this calibre. But that takes nothing away from what the people of France went through. It is not a competition for pity. Beautiful documentary!
