Storyline

In an anachronistic dream, Booth is a cat-burglar/master jewel thief who donates the proceeds to fellow war veterans. Breaking in to rob socialite Eva, he finds her burnt corpse in the safe. Brennan is a pioneer female LAPD detective, whose father Max, the commissioner, fires her for maintaining Booth didn't murder Eva. The pair teams up to prove the authorities wrong and turn to paleontology professor Jack Hodgins and his assistant Clark Edison to invent the forensic use of archaeological methods. Dandy millionaire James Aubrey is murdered while informing them about Eve, reporter Wendell Bray keeps the case in the spotlight. Written by KGF Vissers

Trivia

The opening close-ups of Booth and Bones in their cars are done using rear projection, emulating the way driving scenes were commonly filmed during the 1950s due to technical limitations. See more »

Goofs

The convertible driven by Bones in the opening scenes is equipped with amber turn signals. The story is set in the mid-1950s but that color was first adopted by US manufacturers in 1963. See more »

I can appreciate the attempt but just NO!

I understand the desire to want to do something out of the ordinary for the 200th episode. I also also like that they decided to honor the noir detective genre of the past. The colors are well done, the costumes are great and the music is good.

However, it was an exercise in perseverance to get through this episode. This group of actors is good at spouting the scientific jargon that's so integral to this show and they are charming and easy to watch on a weekly basis but they don't have the talent (or the material?) to pull of this tribute episode.

If you're a completist like me, then my condolences as you watch it. If you're more of a casual Bones fan, just go with that instinct to skip this one as soon as it hits. It doesn't get any better.
