- Liz struggles to keep her secret from unraveling.
- "The Blacklist" - "The Decembrist" - Nov. 10, 2014
In the intro segment we are told it's 4 months ago. We cut to Liz shooting Tom. Red says they can't leave him alive and to do it quickly and he'll wait for her. She instead brings him out alive, has a doctor friend save his life and then takes him to her buddy's boat and ties him up, where we've seen him the last few episodes.
We then get a montage that shows us specific days over the course of the interrogation as Tom's beard grows bushier and Liz pushes him for information about Berlin and Reddington. He says at one point that he is surprised that she has never asked if he really loved her. She says she knows the answer. He keeps pointing out that when this is over she will have to kill him and we are brought up to point of their last meeting and him telling her to look him in the eyes when she does it.
We cut back to Red and Berlin and the surprise meeting with his daughter. Turns out Berlin's real name is Milos! He explains that 25 years ago a group of important Russian officials were meeting when a bomb exploded killing 15 men and the resistance movement they were trying to start. It was known as the Korsk bombing. MIlos says rumors emerged that the Americans were involved and Red's name came up, he came after his daughter, exposed her as a dissident and she got locked up and then he got locked up, and Red began sending her body parts to him. Except, of course, he didn't because she is standing right there.
Zoey fled with the help of a man who told her he could protect her from Milos. She says he was called the Decembrist. She confronts her father and says he destroyed her life.
Back on the boat Ronaldo is wisely pointing out to Liz that Tom can't leave there alive or Liz --and he-- will go to jail. She points out she's not a murderer. Ronaldo isn't either and says there are people. Unfortunately, there are people, other people, on the boat at the moment. The harbormaster has come aboard saying he heard about trespassers. Liz flashes her badge and says she heard and she's investigating and sends him on his way.
Red fills Liz in on the Berlin-Decembrist-Korsk situation. She is mad he is working with Berlin. He says they have to find the Decembrist, which would kill two birds with one stone: uncover the terrorist behind the bombing and ferret out the man who sent Berlin after Red. Red says Berlin will answer after the Decembrist is found and if they want to find the person responsible for gutting Cooper and killing Meera he suggests she help him find the guy.
Liz goes to the Post Office and they work on finding the Decembrist. Thanks to some DNA they get a name, someone named Morosov. Turns out that dude is now a major figure in the Russian government and Cooper's boss has no interest in going after this guy for a 25 year old bombing in Russia since the FBI investigates things that happen in this country. The boss shuts them down. Liz is aghast. But ever the sly Cooper says this doesn't mean that Red can't find out the guy's name, right? Liz gets it and calls Red.
Red goes to Berlin and says it's time to go back to Moscow.
While she's on the phone with him though Ronaldo calls in a panic. The harbormaster came back on his own and discovered Tom. Ronaldo clocked him and tied him up. Liz is aghast again. Tom taunts her the whole time. Tom says they have to kill the guy. The guy promises he will look the other way. While Ronaldo and Liz fight, Tom strangles the guy to death with his leg chains. Liz tries to get him to stop and Ronaldo holds her back. She shoots Ronaldo in the foot to get to Tom but the old-- very sweet-looking-- harbormaster is already dead. Liz's plan is definitely coming undone. Tom tells her it's time to call Mrs. Kaplan.
Red and Berlin track down the Decembrist in Moscow. They corner him in an elevator and make him spill, and he says the Americans gave the order for the bombing: Alan Fitch. They kill him. Berlin wants to go after Fitch but Red says it's his job to do. Berlin doesn't care he's going after him.
Red goes to see Fitch who confirms what the Decembrist said about the Korsk bombing. Fitch says all of this happened before he made his deal with Red. Red pieces it all together about how Fitch is essentially the man that set Berlin after him by pinning the bombing and death of his daughter on Red. Fitch tries to argue that Red stole important information from the collective when he disappeared and he told Berlin to hold off and he "chewed through the leash." Fitch points out that he's the only person on Red's side so this is as much his problem as Fitch's.
Cooper's boss is livid that 18 hours after she told them not to look into it the man is dead. They tell her that Fitch's life is in danger. They hustle to bring him in and protect him.
They don't hustle fast enough because when they find him Berlin's men have kidnapped him and fashioned a bomb necklace for him.
At the Post Office Red confronts Liz about Tom being alive. She admits she lied but says only because Red wanted him dead. Red says she kept him alive because she is still in love with him. She says he has been a great source. Red says Tom may actually be helpful because they now have to find Fitch and Tom might know the addresses of safe houses where Berlin might have stashed him.
She goes back to him and asks and as she does the dead harbormaster's phone rings incessantly. Tom needles her saying she's in over her head and he can only give her Berlin unless she lets him go. He heads to a pay phone and calls Berlin. Liz brought Ressler along and he is aghast she would do this and says she is going to lose her job and he has to tell on her and he can't be part of this. She says that they will find Fitch this way. Berlin calls Tom back and convinces him to bring him in. Tom gives them an address and then she takes off his ankle monitor and he is in the wind. Ressler tells him he's coming for him. Tom wishes him good luck.
Red goes to see Zoey and asks if Berlin has tried to contact her, he has. He sets up a meeting using her as bait. She does her part and when Red enters he gives her money, passports, and plane tickets. He asks Berlin, at gunpoint, how to disarm the bomb.
They bring Fitch into the Post Office strong cell to try and detonate it but of course it's insanely complicated. And after some chit chat with the bomb squad guy Mike, Fitch realizes he can't be saved and tells the guy to save himself and calls for Red. He asks if Red has the "Fulcrum." Red says he does and he couldn't get Berlin to tell him how to disarm the bomb. This will be the key to keeping him safe and Fitch says he'll need to show "them" proof. Fitch says his death will trigger a series of events and Red will have to work fast and tells him to talk to Mitchum and Hobbes because things are going to get wacky as they get closer to 2017. Lights on the bomb come alive. He tells Red about a safe that he needs to get to before anyone else does and gives him the combination, 8-30-44, his wife's birthday. He's about to tell him where the safe is, he gets to St. Petersburg, on the second floor in the wall... and then the bomb goes off, leaving a very unsavory image of blood running down the cell's walls.
Red goes back to the captive Berlin. He opens a bottle of Russian vodka, they proceed to drink the whole thing in a series of shots, toasting before each one, telling old stories, and when the bottle is done, Red shoots him.
He shows up at the boat where Liz is trying to clean up the mess of the harbormaster. The body is at least now gone. Ronaldo moved it. Red got Mr. Kaplan to come help. He tells her she should have come to him. She says they got Fitch because of Tom. Red says it wasn't worth it. Liz breaks down and says she couldn't do it and he was right she was still somehow in love with him and she freaks out asking, what is wrong with her? He embraces her, kisses her head, and consoles her saying nothing is wrong with her.
Later still we saw Tom meet up with Red at a restaurant. Red hands him an envelope, presumably full of cash? He assures Red that, even though he spent four months tied up on that ship, he never told Liz "about us," meaning some arrangement that the two of them apparently had. Red grabs his arm and says Tom is never to see Liz again.
