When Lee and Patrick are in the lawyer's office to find out about Joe's will, Lee wears khaki pants. From there, Lee and Patrick drive to the marina to talk to George about Joe's boat. As Lee and Patrick walk up the pier toward the boat, Lee wears jeans. Once they are inside the boat talking to George, Lee wears khakis again.
When Patrick goes up to Lee's room to ask him for the first time if Silvie could come over, while they talk the pillows on the bed and the beer bottle on the night stand keep changing positions between several shots during the conversation.
When Lee and Patrick are searching for Lee's misplaced car, they twice reverse the direction of their walking. In sequential camera angles the snow on the side appears dramatically different, sometimes showing large snowbanks cut by a snow blower, sometimes showing small piles.
At the end of the boat scene where Lee, Patrick and Sandy are on the stern as it pulls away from the camera, there is a coil of rope at Lee's feet, which alternates from being coiled to uncoiled between shots.
When Lee drops Patrick off at school and asks if he's going to Godspell, Patrick's window is all the way down, but when the scene cuts to Lee driving off, the window is in motion and nearly up all the way. Not enough time has passed for the window to be in this position.
The shot of Route 128, from when Lee is first driving to Manchester, doesn't make sense. If he's going from Quincy to Manchester, he would be on the other side of the highway, and the rest stop and sign for the local theater would be visible, but from the other side. He would also be going uphill, not downhill. The way the shot is set up would imply he's going in the opposite direction of Manchester.
Lee says he and Randy were married on Misery Island. The family is ostensibly Catholic. The Catholic Church frowns on weddings outside an actual church. Unless there is a chapel on that Island it was not a real Catholic wedding.
At 9:58 on the DVD during the bar scene where the girl spill beer, the subtitles say "Ray Charles lyrics" and it is still Driving Wheel by I think Junior Parker. The Ray Charles song "Oh what a beautiful morning starts at 10:05.
The goof items below may give away important plot points.
Though the film supposedly takes place in 2015 (due to the date on Joe Chandler's gravestone), the footage of the Boston Bruins game shown on TV in the film has the St. Louis Blues wearing a version of the uniform (featuring yellow piping) that they stopped wearing in the 2013-14 National Hockey League season. The game also includes goaltender Jaroslav Halak playing for the Blues as well despite the fact he was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the New York Islanders in 2014.
When Lee asked to see his brother Joe's body, he's taken down to the hospital morgue. The drawer holding Joe is opened and the white body bag he's in is unzipped, and only his head is uncovered and visible.
Then the camera angle changes and Lee is still just looking at Joe, then the shot goes back to the original angle but now the white body bag is unzipped further and more of Joe's arm and chest are visible. The amount the white body bag is open changes between camera shots.
During the funeral service for Joe in the church, Randi arrives with her new husband and approaches Lee. Patrick looks over sensitively toward Lee while this encounter is occurring. The next camera angle shows Lee and Randi in the foreground with Patrick in the background, but Patrick is now facing a different direction.
A policeman offers Lee Chandler a ride home which is pretty insensitive since his house just burned to the ground. But in this context the officer clearly means he'll drive him to Lee's brother's house or a hotel or wherever it is he's staying at that point.
