I don't particularly like Dutch movies, but this one is good enough to watch once. Story- line is pretty flat, and some scenes are filling up the movie towards the 90 minutes. However, as a long-time student myself, I recognize large parts in this movie. Seeing friends graduate around you and getting more serious, with you sticking in your old life. Parents that try to help you and not always receive the gratitude that they deserve. Friends that envy your life, while you often envy theirs. The story line with Lisa is a bit weak, and her acting as well. Number of 'fuck' sentences was a bit exaggerated as well. However, despite these details, I absolutely liked watching the movie. Therefore, it deserves an 8/10.
Although this story sounded a lot like Employee of the Month with "star actress" Jessica Simpson, Iwas still very eager to see this movie, since it won several awards.
Man, was I in for a surprise! It's a rather tedious story about a 32 year old slacker (how original! not!) that comes from old money and now misses focus in his life. A void that he fills with laziness, beer and chain smoking.
He is annoyed with everything and everyone, but has no problem sleeping with a 16 year old babysitter/idealist. Then there is a really silly scene that tries to emphasize how much fun the two of them have. Is the director trying to convince viewers that underage sex is great leisure time?
Long story short, it's too long, it's totally unoriginal and some of the acting (girl playing Lisa the babysitter) is really bad.
How can this movie have won so much awards? I know the selection from the Netherlands is not extensive, but still...

If a movie causes you to leave the cinema with a smile on your face, you know it reached its goal (if that was the goal of the movie). The kids acting in this movie are soo cute!
The main actor says "oh, this is so cliché" at one point in time and I guess he somehow nailed it, most scenes are a caricature of everyday real life human interaction. Still the story, or rather the stream of funny events, keeps you entertained till the end.
Somehow the story that's told feels like one of those thoughts you sometimes think, but would never speak out loud. Because it's too bizarre or out of touch with reality. Some parts can be confronting as well, who doesn't feel like you haven't made the best of your life and are just wasting it a bit? But at some point when you hit rock bottom, the only way is up.
I would definitely recommend seeing this movie, if you're in for 99 minutes with a smile on your face.

Feeling aimless, being spoiled by your parents, and doing a generic job at a big electronics company that doesn't match your specific talents at all: I think this profile fits quite a lot young Dutch people of my generation. I liked how the movie painted this vibe, with it's decent actors and a hint of mild absurdism. It made the predictable story acceptable. A predictable but entertaining movie with enough subtle charm to create a satisfying viewing experience.
I actually really liked this movie. It may be looking boring but there is a lot going on. Not that everything goes in depth but this is a dutch movie and emotions are shared slightly differently. I was really pleasantly curious to see the main character (Thijs) evolving through the movie. Really if you want to have an insight on how emotions are lived in the Netherlands, this is to me an excellent movie. Not too complicated and yet full surprises.
