Hold Back is a tragic and poetic ballad about a love triangle between three skater friends looking for love but discovering life. It is a beautiful film that uses a clever and disturbing directorial gimmick to show us the lack of communication and the void before the final transition to adulthood. Geypens mixes talented professional actors with non-professionals showing great maturity as a director and a morbidly poetic style, agitated and alienating with references to the best films by Gus Van Sant, Larry Clark and Harmony Korine.
