Storyline

Anna, a photojournalist, travels to Bangkok to pursue her investigations for a news story on the traffic in human beings being carried on by the triads. There she herself is kidnapped by Asian gangsters and subjected to the same abuse endured by the women she has interviewed and photographed. At length, in a Montreal hospital, she awakens to these brutal recollections. Scarred for life, obsessed by her desire for revenge, Anna embarks on a dark journey, where violence beckons at every turn... but the impact provoked by her investigations will prove to be more important than the satisfaction of her own quest for vengeance. Powerful cinema
4 November 2015 | by simonpierre-47728See all my reviews

Sometimes, movies change your perception of the world and open your eyes on something you didn't realized existed. This is that type of film. I was shocked with the intensity of it all, in a good way, for all its darkness, but also by its simplicity and subtlety in the treatment. This is a impressively shot film. The camera is nervous, yet precise. It never shows you things it doesn't want. I felt this was a very mastered film by a young filmmaker. Stellar performances from french actress Anna Mouglaglis, who is just incredible throughout the film. Tech credits are just perfect. Music grows on you, images stay in your mind long after you walk out of the theatre. This is powerful cinema that packs a hard punch, it doesn't hold back on you, yet it is never gratuitously violent. It is presented in such way that you just follow the character's story and immerse yourself in her dark path. The script has some holes, or maybe things I missed, but they are minor. It is great when movies move you like that.
