Storyline

Two women, a voyage in two voices, which, like reflections of a single echo, convey what fear means in the life of a human being. Highways, landscapes, gazes. Mexico from north to south in an era when violence has taken control of our lives, our desires and our dreams. An emotional and evocative journey, steeped not only in loss and pain, but also love, dignity and resistance.

The human cost of the country's lawlessness.
29 December 2019 | by Goras89See all my reviews

A woman is recruited to a prison controlled by organized crime while another woman searches for her missing daughter. Through images that submerges us in a journey from north to south Mexico. Using images of a trip across Mexico, Tempestad connects the two women's stories to offer up a portrait of a country in the grips of organized crime and widespread government corruption.

On her second feature film By splitting the audio from the visuals, and filming random strangers rather than the speaker, Ms. Huezo seeks to create a sense that "what happened to Miriam could happen to anybody living in Mexico today," she writes in her director's statement.

Movie conveys paralyzing power of fear and reflects the impact of the violence and impunity that afflict Mexico. Both stories are compelling and very sad. Each woman has had a hole ripped in her life that may be difficult or impossible to mend.
