Box Office Sinks to New Low as 600 Theaters Close and Few New Films Open
The weekend before Thanksgiving is one of the most desired release dates. It’s been home to entries in the Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games franchises; in 2019, “Frozen II” opened to $130 million. This year, weekend grosses won’t pass $7 million and only “Freaky” made more than $1 million.

These numbers cap a week of bad-to-worse news for theaters. Announcements from Universal codifed its Premium VOD plans, which suggest that the new maximum window, likely adapted by other distributors, is five weekends after opening. Warner Bros. placed “Wonder Woman 1984” on HBO Max for 30 days, along with theaters that want to play it.

With elevated government restrictions and Covid-19 cases that seem to hit new highs on a daily basis, 2,800 theaters were open this weekend. That’s down from 3,400 last weekend, and about half of the possible locations.

The average gross per complex, with 60 percent of these having eight or more screens,

Freaky – Review

Freaky – Review
(from left) The Butcher (Vince Vaughn) and Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) in Freaky, co-written and directed by Christopher Landon.

Friday The 13th meets Freaky Friday in the Vince Vaughn comedic mashup Freaky, from director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day). It seems an unlikely pair of “Friday” movies and, really, it is the whole genre of teen horror films rather than just the one film. The parody mines the same comedy vein as the Scream and Scary Movie series but here mixed up with another Hollywood favorite, the switched-body comedy.

When another teen and her friends are brutally murdered, 17-year-old Millie (Kathryn Newton) and the rest of Blissville Valley High School know that the Blissville Butcher of urban legend has returned, just as Homecoming approaches.

Packed with winking horror film and sexual references, the humor is broad and sure to delight fans of high school horror. While Freaky Friday was a family film,

Clive Barker To Executive Produce HBO’s Hellraiser Series

Clive Barker To Executive Produce HBO’s Hellraiser Series
You can never keep a good horror franchise down for too long, and there are currently two new Hellraiser projects in the works, one a feature film reboot and the other an HBO series. There’ve been reports that the big screen reinvention for the long-running brand could end up being delayed, though, after creator Clive Barker filed a lawsuit to regain the rights to the source material.

We haven’t heard any further updates for a few months now, but presumably Barker is much more enthusiastic about the HBO series being spearheaded by Halloween duo David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, because he’s signed on as one of the executive producers. Green is also set to direct the first few episodes, while the scripts are currently being hammered out by Battlestar Galactica veteran Mark Verheiden and Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty.

HBO's Hellraiser TV Show Brings in Original Creator Clive Barker
Clive Barker has joined HBO's Hellraiser TV show as an executive producer. The new series was announced back in April of this year, with Halloween director David Gordon Green attached to direct pilot and a few more episodes. The series is written by Mark Verheiden (Heroes) and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters). At the time of the announcement, Barker was not on board, though the show is based on his novella The Hellbound Heart.

Clive Barker says he is "delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It's time the stories went back to their roots. I'm eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it." The HBO series is not a remake and it aims to be an "elevated continuation

The movie will bring Buck all the way back to his roots by adapting Armageddon 2419 A.D., the 1928 novella in which the character made his debut. Written by Philip Francis Nowlan and published in the iconic pulp fiction magazine Amazing Stories, the tale follows the adventures of Anthony Rogers, a World War I veteran

Millie Bobby Brown Almost Quit Acting After Failed Game of Thrones Audition
When it comes to child actors, it is difficult to imagine them having knocked around the entertainment industry for any length of time before getting their big break. Millie Bobby Brown rose to fame playing Eleven on Stranger Things, and most fans assume that was her first job for which she was plucked from obscurity and brought into Hollywood. But as Brown revealed on an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she had already been trying out for Hollywood gigs before landing Strange Things, including a failed attempt at a Game of Thrones audition that almost made her quit acting.

"I think I was just very disheartened by the rejection, which is something I tell everyone. Like, this industry is just filled with rejection, 24/7. You get far more nos...a lot of nos...before you get a yes. I was auditioning for commercials, for anything, really. I then
