‘Showtime’ Drama About 1980s L.A. Lakers From Adam McKay Gets HBO Pilot Order

On the heels of one of the most dismal seasons in L.A. Lakers history, it’s probably a little painful to relieve the glory days of Hollywood’s home team. That is what Oscar winner Adam McKay (Vice) is doing with Showtime, a drama series project, which has received a pilot order at HBO.

Written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla), the true story project is based on Jeff Pearlman’s non-fiction book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.

McKay will direct the pilot for Showtime, a fast-break series chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties—a team that defined its era, both on and off the court.

Warner Bros. has released one final trailer for Legendary Picture’s highly anticipated film Godzilla: King of the Monsters and it’s filled with epic jaw-dropping awesomeness!

This trailer made me happy and put a big smile on my face. It looks like director Michael Dougherty actually went out and made a great Godzilla film that the fans are going to absolutely flip over. I haven’t even seen it yet, but I’ve flipped over all of the footage that I’ve seen from it so far!

Japan's Biggest Production Company Toho Is Expanding Its Operations as They Come to Hollywood

Toho is the biggest movie production company in Japan, they own the Godzilla franchise, and they are looking to expand their operations in America. This is all happening as Godzilla: King of the Monsters is about to hit theaters.

According to Variety, the company has been given “injected with $14 million, through a share issue subscribed to by the parent company.” This money will be used to set up shop in Hollywood so that it can start developing more projects for American audiences.

The Los Angeles move appears related to a so-called breakthrough strategy also described within the Vision 2021 plan. This foresees an enhanced character business centered on Toho’s iconic Godzilla creation, and an accelerated international strategy. “We will work toward the full implementation of Japan IP (Japanese entertainment content by Toho and others) on a global scale,” it says.

The footage was teased on social media with a one-minute clip to tie into Game of Thrones, which is very wise maneuver to get some eyes on the movie who might not normally even know about it. People who love a show with two living dragons and an ice zombie dragon will surely be into Godzilla and some of his monster pals.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters next month and monster fans are looking forward to get any footage they can, so this HBO Now tie-in is a plus.
