According to Channel 4, an island that has the natural resources necessary is chosen. Additional yuca plants are planted in order to supplement the existing supply, extra animals indigenous such as caiman are also added, and a freshwater source is topped up before filming.
Participants are given training about animals native to the island, and each receive one day's survival training, in the second series they received two days. They are also given machetes, knives, emergency medical kits and access to a radio and satellite phone in case of emergency. See more »
