Advice for the new Pennywise: Take a cue from Heath Ledger's Joker
It was only a matter of time before I welcomed Dread Central founder and editor-in-chief Uncle Creepy (not his Christian name!) to Nightmare Fuel, and this week was the week! For those not in the know, Creepy's real name is Steve Barton, and over the past few years the horror maestro has added "film producer" to his resume with his work on the excellent Nightmare on Elm Street documentary Never Sleep Again and the horror-comedy anthology Zombieworld. (Next up: the monster-movie anthology flick Monsterland, slated to hit VOD and DVD on June 7th.) This week, talk turned to the long-developing, two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It, which is rumored to begin shooting this summer in Toronto with director Andres Muschietti (Mama) at the helm. While Steve and I both agreed that the 1990 TV version left much to be desired, it remains legendary for Tim Curry's terrifying performance as Pennywise the Clown,

Ruthless Pictures and Dread Central Present Dead Rush at the Canadian Film Festival

Our little experiment Zombieworld (reviews) was mostly well received, but the main reason why we here at Dread Central consider it a success is because one of the filmmakers featured in it, Zach Ramelan, got to make a feature based… Continue Reading →

Crowd Funding Campaign Begins For Tristan Risk-Led Ayla; Cast gets Major update

Personal horror films are always the ones I typically gravitate towards, because you can tell how important the story is to the filmmaker creating it. Whether it be something out of this world and extravagant or small and character-based, I love horror that means something, and Gut-director’s Elias is gearing up to bring genre fans just that kind of film with the Tristan Risk-led Ayla. We’ve been following the project since it’s announcement, and the recent launching of Ayla‘s crowd-funding Kickstarter campaign has not only piqued that interest even more, but has definitely made this writer quite anxious.

The already announced duo of Nicholas Wilder (Gut) and Tristan Risk (American Mary, The Editor) got an update with the campaign’s launch, with the addition of Valley Of The Sasquatch star Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, Jennifer Lynn Warren (recently seen on American Horror Story), We Are Still Here

‘Zombieworld’ Review

Stars: Jamie McDowell, Noé Blancafort, Bill Oberst Jr., Trevor Snarr, Marc Velasco, Zack Price, Lauren Brady, Jeff Newman | Directed by Adam Myette O’Brien, Adriàn Cardona, Cameron McCulloch, David Muñoz, Jared Marshall, Jesse Baget, Jonathan Brown, Luke Giudici, Paul Shrimpton, Peter Horn, Tomy Woodard, Vedran Marjanovic, Zach Ramelan

Recent years have seen a resurgance in the horror anthology, from the likes of V/H/S to The ABC’s of Death – both of which have inspired many a filmmaker to create their own anthology, to vary degrees of success. The latest to join the ranks is Zombieworld, a collection of 11 shorts, which was put together by Ruthless Pictures in association with horror website Dread Central. This film however has more in common with the “classic” 80s anthology film Groove Tube as TV newsreader Marvin Gloatt (played by the awesome Bill Oberst Jr.) – himself slowly turning into one of the undead

Review: Zombieworld

Good lord, have I had to slap myself in the face so many time lately. Continually being the ass that proclaims that the zombie subgenre has nothing new to offer, just to be broadsided with such Very good films such as Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead, Zombie Killers: Elephant’S Graveyard and now joining that group of fresh takes on the throat biters: Zombieworld. Injecting not only a massive amount of energy into the somewhat stagnant zombie film subgenre, but also a sense of humor that will either make you laugh hysterically, or offend the hell out of you, the mulitple-director filled film is a breath of zombie fumed air, and something to watch for a genuinely wicked time.

While a film like this typically suffers from its wraparound, Zombieworld never suffers that fate, instead giving us a recently bitten newscaster (played absolutely deadpan by genre regular Bill Oberst. Jr.
