'Warfare' recreates co-writer/co-director Ray Mendoza's real experience as a Navy SEAL during the Iraq War, so he and co-writer/co-director Alex Garland (Warfare, Ex Machina) put this team of dedicated, young actors through a three-week boot camp to ready them to act like soldiers. D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai plays Mendoza, while Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, Charles Melton, and Kit Connor all portray real soldiers that were involved in the 2006 Battle of Ramadi.

Not really a war movie

Warfare is more like a documentary. It seems like a 1/4 of a movie to Saving Private Ryan. There's the setup where the battalion are introduced what they were doing and then getting in the middle of the action then the conflict. There wasn't enough action and suspense to make this a full featured war movie. Not a terrible movie but feels like there wasn't enough entertainment or conclusion to the story. I expect a bit more character development such as showing each character's background as well as adding more clips of the current events that lead up to their encounter or setting. It seems the story just put you right in the middle of their adventure without a good explanation.
