In eastern Pennsylvania, Marcus believes in doomsday and has long prepared for it. He has instilled this belief in his adult children Geoff and Melissa, although Melissa has quietly rebelled in some of the "soldier" training, preferring rather to do things like sing in the church choir. Marcus also has a small following. This preparedness does not help Marcus as when a large radioactive meteor hits the area, he is caught outside the sealed bunker, while Geoff, Melissa and most of his followers make it to safety inside. Fast forward ten years. Most of those inside the bunker are still alive and have not left it not knowing definitively what has happened outside. But some are forced to go outside when something happens to one of the bunker's exterior solar panels, which must be repaired within three days for their survival. A small team, including Geoff and Melissa, volunteer not only to go outside to repair the panel, but to survey their exterior surroundings. Outside, they find that ...Written by
A meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body traveling through space. A meteoroid entering the Earth's atmosphere is known as a meteor. If a meteoroid, comet or asteroid actually hits the ground it is known as a meteorite. Meteoroids only range in size from small particles to about 1-meter wide and there is no such thing as a "planet-killer meteor".
As the earth still is in one piece, no "planet-killer meteor" has hit it as yet, but if you look here:
you will find that the idea of meteorites being no larger than 1 meter (or so) is just ludicrous.
Also if you look here:
the idea of a meteorite strike causing the kind of destruction that this movie postulates becomes a lot more plausible. See more »
Good acting, good cinematics, reallt bad execution
"I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee."
That was the part that made me laugh so hard i fell out of my seat and made my dog go into a protection frenzy fit thinking i was attacked by ghosts or something and needed to be saved. Not those exact words, but anyone that plays Skyrim and watched this movie knows. Also the singing, to much hanging tree song.
OK, so it's bad story wise, really bad, so many plot holes it's better to take an arrow to the knee then go through this again. That said, the filming is good, quality really surprised me, good camera work and they really did their best on using the scenics, to complement what could have been a good story, and succeeded on block bluster level, you have to give them credit for that. If they just put in a little more effort in the story. There is just to much left out for some scenes and lines to make any sense unless you fill in the blanks yourself keeping in mind that they simply skipped any chatter between characters between scenes to give a bit of depth.
The actors individually all did a really great job with what they were given. There were a few cheesy bits, but all in all i cannot honestly say the acting was bad, the script was though.
All in all it's B it's never going to be cult ever, but with some fantasy of your own to fill in some blanks it's very good to watch and enjoyable when you come home from the pub, with just enough alcohol to not fall asleep.
