Maleficent 2 Gets Deadpool Star Ed Skrein as the Main Villain

Disney's Maleficent 2 is finally moving forward, with the studio bringing aboard Ed Skrein to play the new villain. Unfortunately, no details about his character were given at this time, with the actor joining original Maleficent stars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning in this sequel. This report doesn't reveal any details about when production may or may not take place, and Disney hasn't set a release date at this time, but there was previously a report that indicated filming was supposed to start yesterday.

The last we heard about Maleficent 2 was back in January, when it was revealed that director Joachim Ronning has entered pre-production on the sequel, with principal photography reportedly set to begin on April 16 in London. That report also indicated that filming was slated to last until August, with Angelina Jolie reportedly choosing this project over the prospect of starring in Universal Pictures' Bride of Frankenstein,

Hellboy Reboot Gets Deadpool Star Ed Skrein

Hellboy Reboot Gets Deadpool Star Ed Skrein
A report surfaced last week that revealed a number of Hellboy characters from the comics will be featured in the new Hellboy reboot, such as Abe Sapien, Alice Monaghan, played by the most recent casting addition, Sasha Lane, and Ben Daimio. Today we have word that Ed Skrein, who is coming off his villainous role as Ajax in last year's Deadpool, will play Major Ben Daimio, who is described as a "rugged military member" of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.). It's possible that Abe Sapien's casting will be just around the corner, as we get closer to a September production start.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that this B.P.R.D. character Ben Daimio can transform himself into a jaguar, when he's angered or when he's in pain. While Abe Sapien was featured in the original Hellboy movies, starring Ron Perlman and directed by Guillermo del Toro,

‘Sword of Vengeance’ VOD Review

Stars: Stanley Weber, Annabelle Wallis, Edward Akrout, Ed Skrein, Karel Roden, Dave Legeno, Gianni Giardinelli, Peter J. Chaffey, Milica Jevtic | Written by Matthew Read, Julian Unthank | Directed by Jim Weedon

I really wanted to like Sword of Vengeance, I really did. Billed as “an almighty clash between Hammer of the Gods and Game of Thrones”, the film comes from the same people that worked on Nicolas Winding-Refn’s Valhalla Rising – to be fair that should have thrown up a warning or two given how much I hated that film – and tells the story of the Shadow Walker (Weber) who, cast out by the ruthless king, is searching for a new place to call home but clashes with many of the kingdom’s inhabitants along his journey. His story crosses paths with that of warrior Anna (Wallis) who, after the death of her husband, is called upon to lead her fellow Saxons into battle.

Sword of Vengeance Review

Director: Jim Weedon

Cast: Ed Skrein, Annabelle Wallis, Karel Roden

Certificate: 15

Running Time: 87 minutes

Synopsis: When a Norman prince returns to his homeland after years in slavery, his code of honour demands bloody retribution of his father.

Game of Thrones has a lot to answer for. Since George R R Martin’s series of doorstop-size novels were converted into a HBO show there have been a string of copycat films. The latest in the long line is Sword of Vengeance a story set in medieval times.

I use the word ‘story’ lightly as at the end of the almost ninety minute run time I’m still a little befuddled as to what actually happened. Each scene runs into one another, punctuated by a battle sequence of some kind. Dialogue is kept to below minimum meaning that it’s exceptionally hard to piece together what is unfolding, other than just the blood spurting across the screen.
