This is the second ever professional film project, after Spartacus (1960), to be granted permission to film at Hearst Castle since the property was donated to the state of California in 1954. Lady Gaga donated $250,000 to the Hearst Castle Preservation Foundation and agreed to film public service announcements for water preservation in exchange for permission to use the location.
