Zone of silence is a real place in Mexico. It is also called La Zona del Silencio. Zone of Silence is desert patch near the Bolsón de Mapimí in Durango, Mexico. It is the subject of an urban legend that claims it is an area where radio signals and any type of communications cannot be received. The movie plays with this urban legend.
