Storyline

Forty-five days after leaving Pasadena to regroup after a series of unwanted changes in his life, Sheldon telephones Leonard to come pick him up in Kingman, Arizona, where he is currently stranded as all his possession were stolen. Leonard decides to ask Amy to come along on the twelve hour round trip drive. Beyond explaining what he did on his time away and if it achieved its goal of redefining his life, Sheldon has some more precise explaining to Amy about one specific more immediate matter. Penny didn't go along on the trip as Bernadette got her a job interview as a pharmaceutical salesgirl with her company. Penny is apprehensive and not confident about the interview, doubting her own abilities. The result of the interview doesn't go quite as she expects. And now that Mrs. Wolowitz's cast has come off, Howard expects Stuart to move out of her house, which he doesn't. Howard, who has no idea the nature of his mother and Stuart's relationship, still feels uncomfortable about it and ... Written by Huggo

Goofs

Sheldon becomes stranded in Kingman, Arizona which is on the western side of the state bordering California. On the ride home to Pasadena, the background scenery (after driving two hours) consists of reddish mountains. Assuming they are taking Interstate 40, this is not what one would see west of Kingman. However, it is similar to what one would find hours away in the opposite direction on Interstate 40 when approaching the New Mexico border. See more »

Not the Greatest Start to Season 8
10 February 2015 | by RbDerajSee all my reviews

At the end of Season 7 we left off with Sheldon departing on a railroad adventure to escape all of the unnerving changes going on in his life. We pick up the story with Sheldon calling Leonard to pick him up as he is stranded in Arizona without his belongings or pants as they were all stolen. Amy comes along with Leonard but is upset that Sheldon didn't call her first. Penny gets an interview for a pharmaceutical sales representative job with the help of Bernadette. While all of this is going on, Howard is dealing with the uncomfortable issue of Stewart staying at his mother's house. As the two become closer it is more of a problem with Howard.

This definitely wasn't a bad episode, but it is not the usual high caliber that we are used to seeing from this show. Some of the jokes felt a little reused almost as if they are running out of ideas. Penny chopped all of her hair off in a pixie cut style which was a big change. I am not a fan of the look, but to my surprise they comically incorporated that into the plot with Sheldon and others not liking the change and complaining to her about it. Overall it was descent but not a strong start to this new season.
