Storyline

As dawn breaks on April 25, 1915, ANZAC troops go into battle on the beaches of the Gallipoli peninsula. Landing in the dark chaos, Tolly, Bevan and their mates struggle to establish a tenuous foothold on the treacherous slopes and deep ravines. They endure the next eight months on the peninsula learning lessons of survival. By the time of the final evacuation they have also learned the skills of combat and what it means to be a young man in war. Written by ahmetkozan

Trivia

For the whole shooting of the show out in the open, the crew didn't actually shoot in Turkey itself. They actually stayed at home, in Melbourne. The crew managed to find a secluded hill range and a local gun range to film on, and even built trenches there. While they did go to Gallipoli, the scenery was altered too much to actually create the impression of the landscape. See more »

I thought this was great
7 March 2015 | by simonmacksSee all my reviews

I am a military pedant. I was all set to be hating on this program.

I have to say I was amazed by the attention to detail showed. Both at ANZAC and also in the home scenes back in Australia.

I'd commend this to anyone wanting to know more about the period and the ANZACs.

As a student of history I would have liked the Senior Officers, especially the Australians, to be more readily identifiable. Bridges, Monash, Elliot etc.

Nice touch to show General Bridges being evacuated (later to die) after being shot by a sniper.

Really enjoying this and hoping it becomes available to people outside of Australia.
