Quotes

Princess Merida: [narrating] Mum had her own plans for my life. She didn't even care what I wanted! So I ran away. And I found myself at the Witch's cottage. Was it someplace real? Or just because I wanted it to be? I ordered the Witch to give me a spell, demanded it. Ugh! What a fool I was!

Brave: Fun enough cash grab
6 January 2018 | by PlatypuschowSee all my reviews

I enjoyed the Brave movie, I didn't expect to but I found it a sweet heartfelt Pixar movie that exceeded my expectations.

As a budding animator I was also blown away with the way Merida's hair had been made (Yep I'm a nerd).

Now most video games based on movies or television shows are terrible, they are usually rushed cash grabs with no substance.

Brave is pretty ugly and no doubt a cash grab but it's not actually that bad.

You play as Merida as you make your way through simple platforming levels while following your mother and bracing for inevitable combat with Mor'du.

Kelly Macdonald reprises her role which does wonders for the games limited credibility but is essentially the only speaking character in the game.

The environments are repetitious, the enemies come under one of a few models and you guessed it....repeat. You have a sword but will never use it, your bow has 4 elemental modes which you'll use to trigger puzzles and defeat the relevant enemy types with.

The only stand out moments in the game are when you play Merida's little brothers (Who are now bear cubs) and perform puzzles, but these are very very easy.

Brave is harmless enough and an easy game suitable for all the family, just don't go in expecting something similiar to the movie.

The Good:

Old school gameplay

Good voice work

The Bad:

Very repetetive

No originality

Cash grab

Things I Learnt From This Game:

Cash grab doesn't have to mean bad
