Tearjerker

What started out as a fun, lighthearted show has devolved into just another pro-fem, check all the right boxes, male bash-a-thon. In this week's installment we are supposed to believe that a (male: boxcheck!) major metropolitan detective would make a kneejerk arrest at the crime scene, then follow with another shortly after. He's a sexist idiot (boxcheck!). Our sexist detective makes a derogatory shopping remark (boxcheck!), while two brilliant, saintly females (boxchecks!) pursue an empowered, brilliant female perp (boxcheck!) suspected of killing a lecherous old white guy (boxcheck!).

Elsbeth, whose son is a gay man who works for a nonprofit (boxchecks!), crosses paths with a delightful nonbinary (boxcheck!). Why? I'm not sure! At the end of the day, we know Elsbeth will solve a crime that no sexist male could ever solve.

HUGE bonus boxcheck for quoting Handmaid's Tale.

Elsbeth has gone so far over the edge that's it's actually like watching a Mad magazine spoof of the show. It's cartoonish piffle. I can almost excuse this kind of outdated writing if it has any hint of subtlety, but here the writers beat you over the head with a hammer. Enough is enough - I'm out.
