Les terroristes en Russie

In a dingy room, men and women draw lots. One of them draws the fatal lot. She goes and kills the governor, then is discovered wandering in the country by soldiers. Her fate is assured. Or is it?

It had been little more than a quarter of a century since Tsar Alexander II had been assassinated by revolutionaries, and he was the nicest one of the bunch. Russia was a seething land that had barely emerged from feudalism, and any effort to better the lot of the lower classes was met with savagery, and that, in turn, was met by revoluiton. Two years earlier Russian sailors had mutinied and forced the government to accept a duma, a congress in which someone other than the Romanoffs had a voice. The film makers had responded with enthusiasm, but now, as the duma was shut down, Gaumont turned out this movie, showing the barbarity of the underclass, and the sentimental goodness of the rulers.

Was it any wonder that in ten years there would be a revolution?
