Crazy Credits
Like in The Lego Movie (2014), Will Forte was billed as "Orville Forte" due to a typo. Forte's actual first name (his full name is Orville Willis Forte IV) rather than his professional name was listed on a form used when compiling the end credits. Thus, the voice of "Abraham Lincoln" remained credited to "Orville Forte." See more »
Might have an unpopular opinion here, but in terms of personal enjoyment
I probably liked The Lego Movie 2 just as much as the first one. True, the original is always going to be hard to top as it was fresh back in the day and we've had Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago since then, but in terms of being a proper sequel, it definitely was better than I was expecting it to be an average sequel.
The story follows right after the original, with Emmet and the others facing a new threat of invaders to their society and having to stop them. During their mission they encounter new characters and locations and many twists and turns along the way. There's a few sequences that replicate the original in parts, but some new stuff I wasn't expecting too such as musical numbers and unexpected subversions. As usual, the Animation quality is top notch, although some might argue the Lego movements feel a bit less Lego-ish, but it didn't bother me.
The humour and style of the film is very similar to the original. I found myself liking alot of the jokes, although I wouldn't say they worked every single time, you could tell Phil Lord and Chris Miller wrote the script. I will say however that you definitely need to have seen the first one to get the most out of this movie. The songs in this movie I thought were pretty decent. It was never going to top "Everything is Awesome" and yeah they do reuse it, but the other songs they added I didn't feel were completely pointless.
Overall, The Lego Movie 2 ended up being better than I was expecting it to be. It's always going to be hard to top the original and yeah it doesn't feel as fresh and they do reuse some ideas, themes, and jokes in it, but as an Animated sequel I think it delivers on giving us a movie in the same ball park that works both for kids and adults. Would I like to see another sequel? I don't know, but
if Phil Lord and Chris Miller are involved again, I'll be happy to see another.
