Slow start but give it 2-3 episodes
I will say it has a slow build-up but, the story, side characters and progression for makes this show feel unique among a plethora of other shows. I look forward to see how it continues and hope for a season 2.
Please give this anime some love, it seems most of the bad reviews are unjustified and people gave up after the first episode, but this has got a storyline and thank goodness no horny boys or big boobs - what is wrong with people.
I will admit there are one or two instances of when it got a little awkward for the viewer but later on the show explains why it's not a big deal. I am so sick of isekai type shows but find this one very enjoyable.

Have not read the source material so can't speak to if this is a faithful adaptation or not.
Most isekai anime follow a familiar theme with an overpowered protagonist who just knows / is able to do things others can't. Tons of devoted female followers (whom they oddly don't show interest in) and a main villain. Who is also overpowered but normally still easily defeated.
In a lot of ways this one does the exact opposite and in some ways pokes fun at the whole genre.
The main character dies after remaining a virgin for 30 years so he can be able to use magic (no explanation on that little gem) and is reincarnated into a world of swords, monsters and fantasy... but oddly no magic whatsoever. They don't even have a word for it.
The story is about his dogged research into if magic does really exist in this world or not.
His older sister is one of the few people who support him in this endeavor. He has always been frail and she has sworn to protect him. As some others have noted their relationship can be problematic if you take it seriously. I never took it to be more than the exuberance of youth on one end and an adult (main character - has the mind of a 30 year old) trying not to crush their dreams at a young age.
The story develops slowly so if you are into fast paced action this is not for you. Towards the end it does speed up almost excessively so. I wouldn't say I disliked the ending but I was taken aback by how everything wrapped up so quickly compared to the beginning of the story.
Would like to see a Season 2.

I just watched this brand new Isekai anime today (March 30, 2025). In keeping with its name, "Magic Maker," our MC, Shion, is reincarnated in a world where people know nothing about magic. Instead of being overpowered at the start, then, he reads, experiments, and learns about magic from scratch-which is a relief.
Similar to all other Isekai, this anime has the typical dungeons, quests, goblins, monsters, and fairies. The best part is watching the MC learn spells and use them to solve problems.
By the end, they introduce a Demon King and a couple of things are clarified, but they didn't put any humongous cliffhangers for Season 2. I'm not really looking forward to a sequel myself, but it was enjoyable enough that I'd watch it if they do it.
Final Rating: 7/10.

This is a very promising Isekai. I will say it has a slow build-up but, the story, side characters and progression for an Isekai makes this show feel unique among a plethora of other shows. I haven't read the manga so I'm not sure where the story is going but so far it is very promising. I look forward to see how it continues and hope for a season 2.
It seems most of the bad reviews are from those that gave up after the first episode. Yes I will admit there are one or two instances of when it got a little awkward for the viewer but later on the show explains why it's not a big deal. If you like isekai this show will grow on you.
This is coming from someone who has seen virtually every isekai animation from the last 15 years.
