Sebastian, a locksmith who doesn't believe in committed relationships, learns from his recent girlfriend, Monica, that she's pregnant and he might be the father. At the same time, he discovers a strange power: when he fixes people's locks, he gets a vision into their lives-a sudden flash revealing their feelings. But this unwanted gift starts to complicate his life. After he warns a maid named Daisy that her boyfriend is trouble, she leaves the boyfriend, and Sebastian takes her in. When yet another vision sheds light on his own life, Sebastian is forced to examine his hang-ups, his family, and his relationship with Monica.—Sundance Film Festival

April 2008, Buenos Aires. A putrid smoke haze, its origins which are unknown and which will last for three weeks in total, has settled over the city, affecting its residents physically and perhaps metaphysically. Thirty-three year old Sebastian, a locksmith, is fascinated with music boxes, he building one of his own, fashioning found metal plates as the combs. He considers Monica a friend, and not his girlfriend, as he does not believe in commitment. Regardless, Monica informs him that she is pregnant, the probability that it being his child high. As Monica decides what to do, Sebastian makes it clear to her that he thinks she should get an abortion, he helping in that process, although he will not force her to do so if she decides otherwise. After learning that news, Sebastian begins to have extra-sensory moments with his customers. Specifically when he is working on their lock, he goes into a trance-like state for only a few seconds when he uncontrollably says something, using philosophical language not customary to him, about their lives which he would have no reason to know otherwise. After being tested by a doctor and finding that there is no medical reason for what is happening, he increasingly suspects that it may have something to do with the smoke. His customers react to his statements differently. After hearing what he had to say, nineteen year old Daisy, a housemaid recently arrived from Peru, decides to leave her boyfriend Vicente, which also means that she can't return to work or return home. Daisy believes Sebastian is a gift in her life, he able to tell her the right thing to do. Although he does not want to help, Sebastian decides to take Daisy in, as she has nowhere else to turn and as she figures out a more permanent solution to her issues. In helping Daisy and figuring how to use this newfound "gift" for his own benefit, Sebastian may come to some realizations of his own life, specifically in relation to Monica.—Huggo
