Wearing only a hospital gown Felix Underwood returns to the village and says 'Murder' before collapsing, apparently dead. At his funeral however the 'corpse' comes back to life but with a loss of memory. He was a patient at Danvers Retreat, a psychiatric hospital for service personnel, which Father Brown visits, along with new Inspector Sullivan, discovering a body hidden in a well. Father Brown gets himself admitted to Danvers Retreat in order to get close to a young woman who supplies clues in biblical texts and to solve both the murder and the mystery surrounding young patient Jeremy. The Maddest of All
10 May 2017 | by Prismark10See all my reviews

Newly arrived Inspector Sullivan has a murder victim that literally falls under his feet as Felix Underwood returns to the village from a psychiatric retreat wearing just a hospital gown.

Just before he collapses he says murder to the Inspector. Father Brown arrives to give prayers and Inspector Sullivan finds out first hand that he really likes to interfere. Things take a twist when during the funeral service the corpse comes back to life, it looks like the coroner misdiagnosed the victim as he was drunk at the time.

Father Brown believes the answers lies at the psychiatric hospital that is carrying out new techniques to patients. In order to find out more Father Brown goes mad in order to be admitted as a patient.

A preposterous but also a fun and entertaining episode.
