The name Kool Kris was based on the local Tongan radio station KOOL 90 FM, and a shortlived Tongan music video TV program called KOOL 90/V, which Chris Lilley would watch with the Tongan kids while this series was being filmed in Tonga. It was also partially based on Father Chris Riley, who started Youth Off The Streets. See more
As it is sung by non-Tongan speakers, the series theme song "Tamasi'i Pau'u" (Naughty Boy) is incorrectly pronounced as "Tamasi'i Pa'u". While Pa'u is not an actual Tongan word in itself, it is part of a bigger word, Pa'usi'i, which translates to "molested". See more
