- A reporter searches a cave near the base of Mt. St. Helens for clues about the existence of Sasquatch. He interviews townspeople who live in the heart of Bigfoot country.
- A news reporter tries to find Sasquatch and fails. He throws a fit. The end.
That's the (obviously) short version. To expand the synopsis just a bit:
Reporter Eric Sloane and his videographer travel to a remote town in Washington state to interview the locals about possible sightings of Bigfoot, aka Sasquatch. First, he ventures deep into a cave near the base of Mt. St. Helens, then runs for his life after hearing unexplained animal sounds echoing in the basalt chambers of Ape Cave.
Later, he tries to persuade several townspeople to speak on-camera about Sasquatch. After many refusals, Sloane interviews three women who are long-time residents of Cougar,Washington. They assure him that they have been hiking and camping in the nearby wilderness for many years, but none of them has ever seen or heard anything that might be Bigfoot. One eye-witness thought she saw a large, hairy creature up in a tree, but it turned out to be a mass of moss and twigs. Another woman tells Sloane that she hopes that Big Foot is never caught. "Why?" he asks. She replies that mankind would be likely to destroy it.
Finally, (in a scene not shown) Sloane encounters a grizzled mountain man who claims to know the ancestral migration pattern of Bigfoot that leads along a ridge above the town. In fact, he says that he can hear the ape-like creatures calling to one another late at night. The videographer is set up with his camera nearby, sure that Sloane has "a live one."
The conclusion of the episode shows the reporter standing in front of a reservoir, recounting how the man refused repeated entreaties to tell his tale on-camera. His frustration apparently throws Sloane into a temper tantrum as he taunts the mountain man and yells at the camera. We last see Eric Sloane attempting to interview a large wooden statue of Bigfoot, which remains enigmatically silent.
Then, as the credits role, a large hairy figure stands motionless watching a nearby waterfall and a distant howl is heard in the forest.
