An excellent Smash Bros. on the go
The only thing that came to my mind when first playing this is how shocking it was that Nintendo has managed to fit a full fledged Smash Bros. game all in the palm of your hand. I say this because this game has a crap ton of depth and amazing things going for it, that it's almost as good as the console games. However, this isn't the best of the best of the series, which considering that it's on a handheld is barely a surprise to any, but the surprising thing is the fact that this isn't the worst in the series either, as the fantastic gameplay, visuals, game modes, battle stages, and roster all make it one hell of a package that you just need if you have a 3DS. The thing that sort of keeps it from being as good as games like Melee and Ultimate are for a few things. One very minor thing being the gameplay. I say very minor because it is still fantastic and almost, if not just as good as other Smash games. The problem mainly comes from the screen resolution. It uses a similar resolution as the Wii U counterpart, but only zoomed in at first, which sounds cool at first, but when there's more than 2 or 3 people in a fight, the camera can sometimes zoom way out, causing each character to look as small as ants on the 3DS screen. It doesn't ruin the core gameplay, but it is sometimes annoying having to fish for my character because they got lost in all of the mayhem on such a small screen. The other thing is that there's not quite as much to do in this game as the Wii U counterpart, which, to it's credit, does have a fantastic classic mode that kind of makes up for it since the Wii U game version is completely different. I can understand that this could be due to hardware limitations, but still. Compared to the Wii U game, this doesn't quite reach the heights when it comes to game modes. The game modes that are in this game are all great on their own, anyways, so don't think that just because this has a little less than the Wii U version that this is any slouch, as most, if not all of the game modes that most Smash fans like myself expect are still in this game. Just not as much new stuff. Overall, this game just kicks so much ass (literally) and that's why I recommend anyone with a 3DS to definitely get this, as this is all the fun of a great Smash game all in the palm of your hands. It really is awesome how Nintendo managed to put this on the 3DS, because for as much content and fun times this game offers, this really is an excellent Smash Bros. on the go.
