Disney-Fox Merger: Combined Box Office Strategy Begins

In recent days, 20th Century Fox has been quietly rearranging its release calendar, no doubt in anticipation of the $70 billion-plus Disney-21st Century Fox marriage. Late last week, Fox pushed back the release of Death on the Nile, a star-studded sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, from Dec. 20, 2019, to Oct. 2, 2020.

In its earlier date, Nile would have opened opposite Disney and Lucasfilm's untitled Star Wars: Episode IX. Fox also pushed Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt, from January to late May, while relocating the action-comedy Stuber from May to July.

Federal regulations prohibit Disney and Fox film executives from directly coordinating ...

‘Aladdin’ Teaser Features Mena Massoud as the ‘Diamond in the Rough’

  • Variety
The first teaser for Disney’s live-action remake of 1992 animated hit “Aladdin” dropped Thursday, featuring newcomer Mena Massoud in the titular role.

The scene soon transitions to the legendary tiger’s mouth Cave of Wonders, with the outline of Jafar standing out front as Aladdin disappears inside while the gravelly-voiced guardian of the cave intones that “only one may enter here…one whose worth lies far within…the diamond in the rough.”

Massoud, who appeared in Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” series, was cast in the role in July 2017. Guy Ritchie is helming the pic, with original composer Alan Menken collaborating with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul on new songs. Naomi Scott will play Jasmine, with Will Smith as the Genie (a

Armie Hammer Joins Kenneth Branagh's Death On The Nile

Armie Hammer has been set as one of the lead male roles in director Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, which is the follow-up to last year’s Agatha Christie adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express.

Hammer will join the previously cast Gal Gadot and Branagh, who is reprising his role of detective Hercule Poirot. It’s safe to say that this is just the start of what will be an impressive ensemble cast just like the first film.

Armie Hammer is a decent actor that has made both good and bad films in his career. This seems like a project that he’ll fit right in with, though.

Death on the Nile was published in 1937, and the story follows "Poirot investigating a murder during a luxurious cruise on the Nile River that he just happens to be on. But just as he identifies a motley collection of would-be killers,

Murder On The Orient Express Sequel Just Cast Another Big Actor

Lifted from the pages of Agatha Christie’s timeless masterclass, 20th Century Fox and writer-director Kenneth Branagh recently came together for a new and modern take on the iconic thriller that is Murder on the Orient Express, which had Branagh tackle the role of Hercule Poirot.

It was a whodunnit of epic proportions, but unfortunately, the film’s stellar cast couldn’t quite save it. Most critics walked away unenthused, with our own Matt Donato calling it “an antique mystery that chugs along at 5-miles an hour without any turns that might jolt viewers in the slightest.” Ouch! Still, that didn’t deter Fox and shortly after its release, the studio announced sequel plans.

Now, the follow-up is coming together. Titled Death on the Nile, it’ll be based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name and after roping in Gal Gadot just a few days ago, Fox

Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express” grossed more than $350 million worldwide, 43 years after the first “Orient Express.” Agatha Christie first published “Death on the Nile” in 1937, three years after her “Murder on the Orient Express” was published.
