Syfy developing Clive Barker’s Nightbreed as TV series

Deadline is reporting that Syfy is in development on a TV series based around Clive Barker’s 1990 film Nightbreed, itself an adaptation of the British horror author’s 1988 novel Cabal.

The project has been penned by Josh Stolberg, who is producing with Barker, Universal Cable Productions, and Morgan Creek Entertainment, the company behind the original movie.

Nightbreed explores race relations in America, albeit between humans and monsters, and “follows a group of underground half-human/half-monsters seeking to find a new refuge and home after their original hiding place is destroyed. Leading these efforts is a recently turned reluctant hero who not only is adjusting to his new supernatural status but also is dealing with the grief and mystery surrounding the death of his fiancée. Will this group band together despite being hunted and persecuted by humans who find their “otherness” to be frightening?”

“This story has been near to my heart for many years,

‘Nightbreed’ TV Series Reboot From Clive Barker & Morgan Creek In Works At Syfy

Stars: Helen Mirren, Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook, Angus Sampson, Laura Brent, Tyler Coppin, Eamon Farren, Thor Carlsson, Emm Wiseman | Written by Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig, Tom Vaughan | Directed by Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig

Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke star in this haunted house horror that’s based on the true story of The Winchester Mystery House. It’s directed by the Spierig Brothers, the German-born Australian directing duo whose previous films include 2014′s time-loop sci-fi Predestination and the recent Saw reboot, Jigsaw.

Set in San Francisco in 1906 (which ought to give history buffs something of a heads-up), Winchester centres on the true story of Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), the widow of the inventor of the Winchester repeating rifle and heir to the company’s vast fortune. Wracked with guilt over all the deaths her company has caused and haunted by their spirits, Sarah has devoted her widowhood to building a continually expanding mansion,

An Old Marvel Villain’s Rumored To Be Returning In The Punisher Season 2

At the end of The Punisher‘s first season, Frank Castle got revenge on his former best friend Billy Russo by violently ramming his head into a mirror. The last time we saw the character, he was comatose with his face in bits, which seemed to promise that he’d return in season 2 as the comic book villain Jigsaw, Castle’s nemesis. Sure enough, set videos have seemingly confirmed actor Ben Barnes’ comeback. But he might not be the only villain from the hero’s past who’ll turn up again in the show’s sophomore run.

Remember Finn Cooley, the Irish mob boss who went after Frank as revenge for the Punisher wiping out all of the Kitchen Irish gang? He was a minor antagonist on the TV show, but he’s a recurring foe of Castle’s in the comics. Somewhat like Jigsaw, he has a hideous, skinless face as well,

‘Jigsaw’ Star Gets ‘Rabid’ In Soska Sisters’ Cronenberg Remake

The Soska Sisters are a well-known in horror circles. The ‘Twisted Twins’ gained notoriety through their debut feature Dead Hooker in a Trunk, before cementing themselves as a pair to watch with the fantastically dark Katharine Issabelle film – American Mary. Since then they’ve collaborated with various filmmakers for a segment in The ABCs of Death 2 and with the WWE for Kane vehicle See No Evil 2, but it’s their next project that will once again turn heads. The sisters are currently hard at work on a remake of David Cronenberg’s Rabid, and have just announced their leading lady, Laura Vandervoort.

Most recently seen in Jigsaw, Vandervoort will of course be known to many for her work in TV. Depending on your tastes, you’ll either know her as werewolf Elena Michaels in Bitten, Visitor Lisa in the remake of V, or as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in Smallville.

The Writers of Jigsaw Are Working on Another Saw Sequel

A couple of months ago it was rumored that Lionsgate was going to be developing a ninth film in the Saw franchise. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Jigsaw was a big success for the studio, and as long as these Saw films keep raking in the cash, Lionsgate is going to continue to make sequel after sequel until finally, people stop watching them.

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the studio is now actually moving forward with these plans and that they have hired the writers of Jigsaw, Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, to bring back that bloody magic. They are currently actively developing that script.

The report says they are "unsure if the next installment will be a direct followup to Jigsaw or Saw 3D: The Final Chapter." Aren't they part of the same story though, just with a different name? It's just going to be the ninth chapter in the horror franchise.
