Immediately, I dropped everything once I learned that this was available to watch. There were some things that I didn't like about it. Number one, it portrays family flogging as if Ruby Franke is the model that other moms in family vlogging channels portray.
The deep dive could have/should have relied more on Shari's book instead of showing how Ruby came under the control and influence of Jodi.
I think a lot of America feels that Kevin should've been legally capable as well.
My last thought is the dig they made at another family flogging channel where the father always wears the same type of shirt. In one of the very last scenes where Kevin was talking, he was wearing that shirt. That was a dig, and I feel it was unnecessary.
I am going to watch the Hulu three part special, and I hope that it is more representative of what actually happened in that family and what the potential harm other family vlogging channels might be guilty of. As a fan of a few family vlogging channels, I may be somewhat prejudiced, but I do love and care for children and really hope that their wants and needs put before anything or anyone else.

Will start off by saying Ruby's husband was beyond weak allowing such changes in their marriage, therefore he should of been held accountable for not doing more sooner.
They both allowed Jodi to overtake so many decisions because as a husband, yet more importantly father it was irresponsible for him to not have any legal protection regarding the kids, property, finances & more.. I get he loved his wife but still, felt he gave too freely or didn't fight harder as things went on- Call the police,go to court or anything at least his daughter tried.
Speaking of police.. After seeing how mom & two daughters acted why did they not ask the daughter for home entry or call the father, even social services instead just leave without follow-up.
Even though towards the movies end you see remorse or more sorry she got caught, you didn't feel any sympathy only anger over Ruby's tears.
Hope the kids recovered with time & frankly, would never trust Ruby over her decisions again & that Jodi never is allowed again to do this.
Glad their social media was removed, such hypocritical or dangerous advice that leads to crimes never should be montenized.
Worth checking out,but will upset you.

If you're familiar with the case, don't waste your time. This movie will make you angry. It portrays Ruby Franke as a victim of Jodi Hildabrant and try's to evoke the sympathy of the audience for her at times. These women are both monsters and the movie neglects to emphasize the amount of abuse that was inflicted on the children, leaving SO MUCH about the abuse that they had to endure at the hands of their own mother and her disgusting friend. It fails to include the most significant journal entries that Ruby wrote, ones that show how disgusted she was by her children and show her full motives for the abuse. I was so angry about how Ruby was portrayed. The emphasis was way to much on Hildabrant, perhaps so Heather Locklear could get more screen time. Save yourself some energy and time. Skip this farce of a movie.
Starring a former Dynasty TV-series actress, this film has your expectations low. And that is great. Because this is actually a good film. Everyone who was raised in religious families know that there is always that someone who wants to take advantage of that. And here, it is exploited to the max. The main villain plays people's lives like pawns on a chess board. And it even ties up in marital sex. And the social media aspect is well written. Don't be offended if you are a mormon. This story could be told inside any religion or even amongst atheists. Best part is there are actually people like this living amongst us. Who will be the next victim?

- TriviaShari Franke, who is portrayed in the film and the oldest child of Ruby and Kevin, did not know this film was being made and had an anxiety attack after suddenly seeing the trailer. A now-deleted YouTube comment on the trailer from her says, "This is shameful. This movie should not be supported, let alone released."
- GoofsFor dramatic purposes, Shari openly disapproves Ruby's parenting methods in the film. In reality, she was silent about her disapproval until Ruby's arrest.
