Bafflingly incompetent film from the people who made THE BABYSITTER MASSACRE
edgein154 August 2014
What in the name of God happened with this movie? I was quite a fan of THE BABYSITTER MASSACRE, but this film is one giant pile of nothing.

Remember those two cute actresses from THE BABYSITTER MASSACRE who did those hot nude scenes? They are also in this movie, and neither of them gets naked in this one. Just so you know. Good job, Mr. Director. You clearly know what your fans want.

The cinematography is complete garbage. It has that same crap hazy blue color scheme that you can find in every single Wal-Mart 5-dollar multi-pack DVD horror set from Echo Bridge.

The haunted house has no visual presence. It looks like a crappy rental property in Podunk, Trailerville. You know, the Amityville Horror house had presence. Mr. Director should have learned from that.

Compared to THE BABYSITTER MASSACRE, this movie is an utter disaster. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Have You Seen The Ghost Of John?

Oh heck yes I can tell this one is gonna be great just by the title. So it starts out with a couple cruising in a car and dude finds what appears to be an empty house where he can 'bang a chick in a haunted house'. Should be awesome! Aww cool and the girl's outfit is bangin itself. A little bit of Twisted Kilt action. Thong! Alright, things are lookin up. Oh no a skeletal body! Oh that's just the opening moments of this obvious classic.

Well at least they showed some BIG T'S IN THE shower scene. That's a plus! I just hate shower scenes with no skin shots. +1 Star!

Then the movie just starts into a slew of badly acted scenes. -1 Star.

Oh yeah then they go over the great concept of the 'Hoochi Olympics'. That's a great idea!

The rest of the movie is full of cheesey dialogue and quips. Some are funny, most are not. The movie is pretty anti-climactic. The 2nd half is actually not very good at all. -2 stars

3/10.

Awful. Just awful.
benecjt-505-2856919 December 2022
This has got to be the worst written, worst acted movie I have ever seen. I've seen better acting at an 8th grade Christmas play. If you like to look at ugly girl's breast, then that's about all it offers. But, trust me, they aren't that nice to look at.

The writing is bad enough - there is no great plot here. The dialog is not very true. But the worst part of this film has to be the acting. They should have gone to acting school. They cannot deliver a line without it looking like it was being fed to them in their ear. It's just a stupid attempt to get people to watch it because there are naked female bodies in it.

There are much, much better options out there. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would. Life is too short to waste watching this film.

Haunted House on Sorority Row
DarylJGittings31 July 2023
A group of young women buy a spooky old house in the middle of nowhere for their sorority. Turns out the house is haunted and preys on the occupants worst fears and biggest secrets or shames from their past.

The gals who bought the house are joined by a couple of friends to help them move their stuff into the new sorority house. You've got the nice guy, who wants to impress one of the gals, and there's Jim, the big jerk character. I find him pretty amusing, although I don't condone acting like that in real life.

There's a few actresses that frequently show up in Henrique Couto and Dustin Mills films, such as Erin R. Ryan, Joni Duran, and Haley J. Madison.

Very fun movie!

An excellent blend of horror and comedy. The background music gave it an 80s feel at times which fits with the type of movie, this would definitely have fit right in with other 80s horror movies (aka the best era of horror). There was a more psychological horror than physical horror and they nailed it perfectly, allowing you to watch as the characters slowly unravel into insanity.

Similar to a lot of horror movies of this type, the movie was lacking in the male department as the focus was more on the girls. There were only 3 guys total and each was very different. Joe Kidd is just a small supporting role but he did well. Eric Widing was a typical frat-boy douche who you could tell had a blast acting in that way! Mike Hilinski played a normal guy who is trying to look good for a girl he's crushing on. I could definitely relate to his character, getting annoyed at the douche friend who was acting out and making him look bad.

All the females were great, with different personalities for each. I've seen too many horror movies where all the females are written as generic and stereotypical but definitely not here.

I enjoyed how the writing did not seem forced for the actors. The dialog was very casual and something you could expect yourself to say in those situations. Sometimes in horror movies there will be excessive cursing simply to have cursing, but that was not the case here.

Only complaint? Who in their right mind tries to get spaghetti from a pot with a normal spoon?!? That's the most I can complain!

Strong Microbudget Creepfest
deadfiller5 October 2014
This a micro budget horror flick that delivers on all fronts. The low budget is used to it's advantage to provide a creepy nightmarish vibe. The cinematography is generally quite sharp, and when it fallers, it just adds to the mood. Is the acting rough at times? Sure, but that's part of its hook that lulls you in expecting cheap exploitation, and turning those expectations right on their ear. The lead actress is very strong, and I expect to see her more often in the future. Effects are used sparingly, but are all convincing. Also with noting is the over saturation of nudity in horrific situations to creep the audience out. There is gratuitous nudity off all kinds, but in the nightmarish situations it accents the scenes with a sense of taboo dread. The flick also knows not to wear out its welcome, and it's breezy running time lets the flick get in and out, taking care of the twists and scares efficiently and effectively, proof that the most interesting horror is coming from micro budget filmmakers.

A real treat from a truly independent mind!
sammaeal-810-4477625 August 2014
If you haven't checked out the films of Henrique Couto, do yourself a favor and go seek them out. While not my absolute favorite film of his (that honor will always be the first I saw, Depression: The Movie), it shows that the man and his stable of irregular regulars know exactly how to make no budget films that fire on all cylinders. This one is a ghost tale, or an urban legend, or a body horror, or a raunchy comedy. It all depends on how you look at it and which scene is playing now. It may sound jarring, but it actually works like gangbusters and manages the changes in pace and twists that come very well.

The acting, direction, sound design and cinematography are all far above what you would expect from an indie film such as this, I encourage you to give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Henrique, Henrique, Henrique- What have you done!?!
sgtshields26 February 2014
In an average year easily I see over 100 films and some films will be incredible and others; others not so much. After venturing out this past weekend to watch the latest creation by director Henrique Couto I felt the need to write a review of the film. First off I need to mention that the entire budget for this film was less than what is thrown away at the end of lunch for the average craft services table. The previous statement will be explained shortly. Is this a handicap for mister Couto? Absolutely not. This is not the first film I have seen by Henrique, but it far and away the best. I could continue to write adding platitudes in an attempt to convince you the reader that this film deserves your attention, but that may or may not convince you so I will just say this. The feeling he creates in this film is more unsettling at times than many of the big budget film to come out of the Hollywood movie factories. The micro-budget forces him to look for ways to "get you" that does not rely on the special FX. He uses common household items and awkward timing to create his very successful scares.

One change to Henrique's formula is enlisting an outside source to write the screenplay. Screenwriter John Oak Dalton created a twisted plot that was very enjoyable ride. After watching the film I am left to wonder if he had some childhood trauma he is not telling us about. I now feel the need to back and find other films he had his hand in to see if I can find an answer to this question. Erin R. Ryan is as always wonderful in the very creepy take on Sherrie and Haley Madison as Melissa was a better roll for her than when last I saw her and she ran with it. In the acting department there were in fact no weak points, but there was a certain "Gentleman" that stole the show. Those who saw the film know who I am talking about. Mr. Widing takes a bow. So as not to give away any plot points (I hate it when people do that) I will say that Eric was far and away the best part in a great film. I hate having to wait to see this film again till sometime later this year with its DVD release, but wait I will. This film just flat out fun to watch.

Awesome

I totally loved it. Henrique Couto hit this one out of the park. If you do not like independent films you have not seen this one. The only way I can imagine it better would to have seen it at the big screen. The acting was top notch. The actresses not only beautiful but extremely talented. I strongly require mend going out and picking up a copy. This Dayton based cast and crew can hold their own against Hollywood Blockbuster. I can only imagine what Couto could do with the massive major motion pitcher budget. I expect to see great things from Couto in the future. And the same from this awesome cast. Without giving any spoilers all I can say is this is a must see movie.

Nifty little indie horror winner
Woodyanders27 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A gaggle of sorority gals move into a rundown old house that turns out to be haunted by an evil force with the unnerving ability to tap into people's most shameful and nightmarish secrets. Director Henrique Couto, working from a compact and complex script by John Oak Dalton, relates the compelling story at a brisk pace, takes time to carefully develop the main characters so the viewer has a genuine emotional investment in their well being, makes excellent use of the titular creepy ramshackle abode, adroitly crafts a tense and spooky atmosphere, keeps the tone admirably dark and serious throughout, and even sprinkles in some tasty female nudity for tantalizing good measure. Moreover, it's nicely acted by an able and attractive cast, with especially praiseworthy contributions by Erin R. Ryan as the troubled and vulnerable Sherrie, Haley Madison as the sassy Melissa, Joni Durian as the sweet and sultry Alex, Brandi Baird as sarcastic geekette Kathryn, Mike Hilinski as wimpy nice guy Dave, and Eric Widing as obnoxious jerk Jim. Tara Clark cuts a suitably unnerving figure as a freaky naked ghost. Couto's crisp widescreen cinematography provides an impressive polished look, with neat use of titled camera angles and striking lighting. The shuddery score by Roland Thomas hits the spine-tingling spot. The diabolical way that the house uses people's fears and weaknesses against them gives this picture an extra unsettling edge. A solid scarefest.
