Box Office: ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ Overtakes ‘Jumanji’ With $22 Million

Fox’s “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” is set to knock “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” out of its first place slot at the box office, with $22 million from 3,787 North American locations.

The last installment in the “Maze Runner” series, “The Death Cure” stars Dylan O’Brien as a young man fighting for survival in a dystopian world. The film’s opening was delayed for a year after O’Brien sustained injuries on the set two years ago. Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster also star. Wes Ball has directed all three films.

Sony’s “Jumanji,” starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, had maintained the top spot at the box office for the past three weekends after opening in second place behind “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in December. The sixth weekend of “Jumanji” will likely finish at around $15 million at 3,553 sites, giving it $337 million domestically after 40 days — topping Sony’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” for 49th place on the

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ to Outpace ‘Jumanji’ With $22 Million Weekend

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ to Outpace ‘Jumanji’ With $22 Million Weekend
Fox’s “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” is heading for $22 million at 3,768 North American locations, dethroning three-time champ “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” early estimates showed Friday.

The sixth weekend of “Jumanji” will likely finish at around $14 million at 3,553 sites, giving it a stunning $335 million domestically after 40 days — topping Sony’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” for 49th place on the all-time list.

Five films are battling for third place in the $8 million to $10 million range: Fox’s sixth weekends of the sturdy musical “The Greatest Showman” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Post,” Warner Bros. second frame of Afghan war drama “12 Strong,” STXfilms’ second weekend of “Den of Theives” and Entertainment Studios expanded Christian Bale drama “Hostiles.”

The Maze Runner franchise has been a reliable performer for Fox since 2014 when it opened the original “Maze Runner” with $32.5 million on its way to grossing $102 million in U.S. receipts. The 2015 follow-up, “The Scorch Trials,” opened with $30 million

7 Great Modern Heist Scenes, From ‘The Dark Knight’ to ‘Point Break’

7 Great Modern Heist Scenes, From ‘The Dark Knight’ to ‘Point Break’
No one quite puts together a heist scene like Steven Soderbergh, but he has plenty of company. Soderbergh is back to his heist roots this week with the release of “Logan Lucky,” which injects some “Ocean’s Eleven” style into a homegrown robbery cooked up by the Logan brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver), who set out to drain a local speedway during one of its biggest race days of the entire year. Aided by a predictably motley crew, including the wild-eyed Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) and their talented driver sister (Riley Keough), the Logans’ plan is ambitious and fun, but it also seems like the kind of thing that only Soderbergh could cook up (it involves digging, vacuuming, cake and prosthetic arms, of all things).

20 Interesting Facts About the Movie Heat

If I had to pick a favorite Michael Mann movie it would have to be Heat. It’s easily one of my favorite “Heist” movies of all-time not to mention “Cops chasing the bad guys” movies I’ve ever seen. The movie was nothing short of brilliant and there was rarely a moment that you weren’t completely captivated. It’s hard to believe the movie was released all the way back in 1995 but it completely holds up today. Seeing Al Pacino pit against Robert De Niro in a film of this magnitude will never be replicated. Personally I thought Val Kilmer was

Bryan Cranston Rediscovers Potty Humor in ‘Why Him?’: ‘We Could Not Stop Laughing’

Bryan Cranston Rediscovers Potty Humor in ‘Why Him?’: ‘We Could Not Stop Laughing’
Having won Emmys, Golden Globes, a Tony, and an Oscar nomination for playing such dramatic operators as Walter White, Dalton Trumbo, and President Lyndon B. Johnson, Bryan Cranston was pleasantly surprised to return to comedy with John Hamburg’s “Why Him?” — even if it did mean a prolonged scene sitting on a toilet.

Specifically: While staying at the home of his daughter’s rich Silicon Valley boyfriend, Cranston’s character answers the call of nature, only to discover that his host’s house is paperless. The toilet upon which he is enthroned is a Japanese import with non-intuitive controls and no instruction book.

Think of a high-tech, all-in-one toilet/bidet combo and you get the idea.

“Yeah, it was in the script — I knew going in that I would be naked on a toilet,” Cranston says with a laugh. “That scene turned out to be about 45 minutes where we could not stop laughing.

Jim Mickle’s ‘Godforsaken’ Halted as Sylvester Stallone Departs at the Last Minute
