Exclusive: Jennifer Beals Reveals Why 'Last Tycoon' Is Her 'Favorite' Role, Dishes on 'Epic' 'L Word' Revival
It was kismet for Jennifer Beals when The Last Tycoon came along.

The 53-year-old actress, best known for her roles in Flashdance and The L Word, plays the fierce and in-demand Hollywood star Margo Taft, who comes into the fray in the original Amazon series' third episode and proves a strong woman isn't to be toyed with.

As Margo, Beals showcases a woman -- who keeps her biracial identity a secret -- unafraid to demand what she's worth and even forces directors to show their private parts before she begins filming their movie.

Beals recently jumped on the phone with Et to discuss her exciting new role on the 1930s-set The Last Tycoon, which also stars Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer and Lily Collins, and offers an update on the long-awaited Showtime revival of The L Word.

8 Million Ways to Die

Tonight on ‘movies we really want to like’ we have Hal Ashby’s final feature, an L.A.- based crime saga with a great cast and spirited direction and . . . and not much else. It isn’t the train wreck described in Kino’s candid actor interviews, but we can see only too well why it wasn’t a big winner when new. Any day that a Jeff Bridges picture doesn’t shine, is a dark day in my book.

Neill Blomkamp Releases His First Oats Studios Sci-Fi Short Rakka and It's Awesome!

Any day where Neill Blomkamp gives the world something for free is a good day in my book. Today is no exception as the director uploaded a 20+ minute short film featuring Sigourney Weaver, aliens, and a whole lot of sci-fi craziness. Here's a description for Rakka, which is somehow bleaker than it sounds:

Rakka is the story of broken humanity following the invasion of a technologically superior alien species. Bleak harrowing and unrelenting, the humans we meet must find enough courage to go on fighting.

The whole project is part of a larger project from Oats Studios, who is looking for your support to fund feature films out of these unique ideas. In fact, if you're looking to donate, you can obtain some assets from this film for use in your own stuff should you choose to do so. Watch the movie and learn more about the effort here.

''We would definitely work with Ilayathalapathy Vijay"

Behindwoods, recently had an interaction with the young and energetic producers of 7 Naatkal, Karthik and Karthikeyan. During the interview, the producers' duo was asked, if they had a dream to produce a film of any big star, and if yes, who would be that big star.

Karthik opened up on this by saying, "Any day, it would be with Vijay sir. Actually, we have started to approach him. We have got the right link and are following up with it. Even if it happens after five years or more, we would definitely do.

Drew Barrymore: "I Want to Be the Rock That Floats"

  • Popsugar
Drew Barrymore:
I enter through a grand wooden door of a mansion in Monterey, CA - we're talking Big Little Lies status with sweeping views of the Pacific in front of me. I'm there to interview Drew Barrymore, who is in the midst of an elaborate photo shoot for Barrymore Wines, a wine label she has developed in partnership with Carmel Road. She has just released the 2016 Monterey Rosé of Pinot Noir ($23), a wine I'll try while catching up with the ever-quotable actress. As I step into the foyer, Drew cuts across the room, half sandwich in hand to take her lunch break. She stops upon recognition and draws me in for a hug. "It's been a year," Drew sighs. "What a year it's been," I echo. Last April, we sat at a sunny window seat, sipped Rosé a little too early in the day, and discussed everything but her relationship status

10 Best, Worst and Wtf Things From NBC's 'Hairspray Live'

10 Best, Worst and Wtf Things From NBC's 'Hairspray Live'
Network TV's recent spate of live musicals have been many things, from buoyant and distracting to plodding and super awkward. But rarely have they been socially relevant – and then came Hairspray Live! The movie-turned-stage musical-turned-movie musical (got all that?) has now become a television extravaganza under the auspices of NBC's live song-and-dance format, and its message of inclusivity, equality and the fight for civil rights has taken on a freshly urgent tone in our current cultural moment. So unlike, say, Peter Pan Live! or Grease Live!, there's a very good

Jared Leto: The Unlikely Triumphs of a Rock-Star Movie Star

Jared Leto: The Unlikely Triumphs of a Rock-Star Movie Star
Jared Leto is wearing a preposterous straw hat this morning, a gigantic, not-quite-a-sombrero thing he bought for seven bucks at a corner store. And why not? He's made it this far by committing fully, sometimes crazily, to everything in his life: Method acting, music-making, video directing, tech investing, not to mention the arts of being enigmatic, brainy and really, really good-looking. "I don't dabble," he says. "I dive in, 1,000 percent." So if he needs sun protection for a hike, of course he goes big. In any case, Leto recently turned 44 — "old,

Tangerine DVD Review

Director: Sean Baker

Written by: Sean Baker, Chris Bergoch

Starring: Mya Taylor, Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, James Ransone, Karren Karagulian and Mickey O’Hagan

There were some big runaway smashes in 2015, but nothing got the film world talking like Sean Baker’s Tangerine. Talks about revolutionary use of iPhones and real life comedy were all the rage on film blogs everywhere, even as film festival season passed. So what exactly made this the most talked about film in 2015?

Tangerine follows transgendered sex worker Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) as she is released from jail following a 28-day prison sentence. When she meets with her friend Alexander (Mya Taylor), she reveals that Sin-Dee’s boyfriend and pimp Chester has been having an affair with a cis gender prostitute called Dinah. Sin-Dee goes on a voyage round the city to try and find her, while Alexander tries to get some trade and people

Cuba Gooding Jr. on ‘People v. O.J. Simpson’: ‘I’m Not Here to Prove His Innocence or Guilt’

Cuba Gooding Jr. on ‘People v. O.J. Simpson’: ‘I’m Not Here to Prove His Innocence or Guilt’
Of all the cast members in “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” Cuba Gooding, Jr. may have the toughest challenge: He has to embody someone everyone has an opinion on.

But guilty or innocent, Gooding says he’ll never reveal his true feelings about the case — or the former Heisman trophy winner, who’s now in prison on an unrelated charge. In this week’s episode, we’ll see the infamous Bronco chase — which reveals Simpson at his most vulnerable, threatening to commit suicide as pal A.C. Cowling drives along the 405.

Here, Gooding tells Variety about the role he calls the hardest he’s ever played.

Why did you decide to take on this role?

Two words: Ryan Murphy. True story: My agent called and said there’s a script here. It’s 167 pages, some guy with a lot of money in Australia wants to tell the story of the innocence of O.J. Simpson.
