Did You Know?

In the scene in which Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) attempts to caution Mendoza (Selenis Leyva) about working with Red (Kate Mulgrew), Vee asks Mendoza if she has heard of the fable of the frog and the scorpion. The full version of this metaphorical story is that the scorpion must cross a river, a task which only the frog can do. The frog is understandably apprehensive about crossing the river with the dangerous scorpion on its back but lets itself be convinced with the logic that, if stung, they will both perish. The frog swims halfway across the river before being stung by the scorpion which prompts the frog to ask it, "why" since they will now both die. The scorpion responds that it couldn't be avoided because it is in his nature to do so. It is this tale from which a Star Trek: Voyager (1995) two-partner episode draws it's title, "Scorpion.@ The story is told in a similar fashion from the first officer to his captain who is planning to ally with an unpredictable threat in order to combat another. That captain is Capt. Janeway played by Kate Mulgrew who plays Red in this series. Mendoza quips that they (Vee and Red) are both scorpions. See more »

One Of The Best Episodes Yet
21 September 2016 | by 851222See all my reviews

Greetings from Lithuania.

Episode 8 was truly one of the best this show delivered yet. We finally got to see background of Rosa (which i always thought will be interesting), and it delivered fully. Performance of Stephanie Andujar who portrait young Rosa was superb. Pacing of this episode was also on spot, there even some were intense scenes and one touching and the end. The ending was good, want to see more. I also like how this second season does not fully focus on Piper - she is just one of the inmates in season 2, while on the meantime other characters have more space to "breath".

Great episode overall, one of the best yet.
