The visual of the giant crystals under the volcanoes is inspired by the Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals) located in Chihuahua, Mexico. The cave was formed over millions of years by quartz minerals that grew into giant, 20 ft. long crystals inside a water pocket that was later drained by the operations of a salt mine. Temperatures inside can reach 45° Celsius and it is only accessible for a few minutes while wearing special equipment. See more »
At around 49:30 into the film, the young boy inspects an American coin. You can't see the date on the coin but the boy says it's from 1797. You can however clearly see that the image on the coin is the Statue of Liberty, which was not completed and dedicated until 1886, almost 100 years later. See more »
Yep, I'm gonna be THAT mean Lol Seriously though, this whole film may indeed have been Shot in only 10 weeks, but surely the kids could have had more acting lessons in that time. It's painful to watch! Plus, being British myself, does the Girl really have to have such a strong, cliché British Accent? She sounds like a little Mary Poppins FFS!... and I mean the original Julie Andrews version.
Anyway, now that I've had my Rant, it's actually quite a fun film to watch. The Special Effects are quite impressive for such a Low Budget Film. It's probably best that you don't take it too seriously - it's a great film to chill out in front of & suitable for all ages, especially other kids who won't be so judgemental of the Kid's Acting Skills as adults who know what to look for! Bearable Fun.
