NOT "THE CHOSEN" SERIES, BUT ALL IS FORGIVEN

I thought I was going to see "The Chosen Series of The Last Supper", which is coming to theaters, soon. -- Oh, well! This "Last Supper" movie version, which has every right to be screened before The Chosen series version, is satisfactory at best. The disappointment about this movie would chiefly be the cinematography and lighting, both dark, murky, and unclear. The sound quality was excellent. The screen direction and editing were well done. The casting choices were acceptable, except for the actor who played Jesus -- He didn't do it for me -- just saying. The storyline did the job all right, except that the movie forgot to highlight or mention the role of the "women" who were at the crucifixion, after following Jesus on his walk along the Via De La Rosa, and the "women" were not even mentioned by John's account of the crucifixion, as he was the only one of Jesus's disciples to witness the crucifixion ... This movie didn't have the same polish and personality as "The Chosen Series", but all is is forgiven ... A different perspective is always worth seeing.

Not Scriptural

Ok, l love a good story but let's stick to The Book. No amount of creative license can make the story better. You can never top the Holy Spirit as an author. If you feel the need to inject info into the story for continuity, that's ok but to change events is not and this retelling does just that. The actor playing Judas was superb but there's a reason he didn't hang himself in the city street. John was too old for this part. The women running was odd take and had no context. The disciples fishing a week after the crucifixion in a deep state of depression? Jesus appeared 3 days after His death to the disciples which is a corner stone of theology.

Not Biblical

Considering this movie was produced by a well known Christian Artist, it was very disappointing that it was a bit bizarre and unscriptural. It is understanding that there is going to be dialogue and events that will not be portrayed in the Bible. It is not acceptable when events in the Bible are distorted or completely false.

I was looking forward to seeing this movie with great anticipation, so it was a significant disappointment. I am waiting for the next sequence of The Chosen, which I have no doubt will present the Last Supper with great reverence and accuracy.

If Chris Tomlin produces another Christian story, hopefully he will do so with more accuracy.

Didn't move me

My honest opinion on "The Last Supper" is not that good. While the cinematography was okay, there were a few factors about the movie that didn't move me.

1. The character that played Jesus did not do it very well, it was like an empty actor just reading a script. He didn't give the emotion or attitude that the Bible portrays in some aspect. For instance, the den of thieves scene, when Jesus was angry at them, the actor didn't give that emotion.

2. The vfx was horrible, snakes slithering around was like a bad graphic video game. Going into things, missing part of the body.

3. Vital moments were missed, the Crucifixion wasn't shown or the manifestation of God when Jesus died on the cross. It wasn't shown how mary found his tomb empty.

4. Overall I just didn't feel moved, it was almost like the movie wasn't anointed in a way. Or God wasn't a central piece in the film! Almost like doing something without consulting God. Even during Jesus getting whipped, I wanted to feel something so bad, but just couldn't.

If you haven't watched The Chosen

Took my wife to go watch this and yes the movie was great.. I had just finally gave my life completely over to God a few months ago while being incarcerated but if you are a huge fan of the show, "The Chosen" than steer clear of this. Comparing the actors from each will completely ruin it for you. Some of them "in my opinion" had no right playing their character and it will be in your mind 24/7 lol. Aside from something as "little" as that. I believe the movie did a great job at showing this from a different angle. Definitely worth watching and I'm glad much more religious movies and shows are coming out. I can't wait to see how The Chosen's version will match up to it!

Flat

Honestly, I had high hopes for The Last Supper, but it completely fell flat. The movie lacked depth and didn't explore any real details that could've made the story compelling. It felt rushed, surface-level, and ultimately boring. For a film with such a dramatic premise, it was surprisingly dull. Not nearly as exciting or thought-provoking as I expected. Disappointing. It wasn't nearly as exciting or thought-provoking as I expected it to be. There were moments that could've led to deeper discussions or tension, but they were glossed over or rushed. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity-disappointing from start to finish.

New take on an old story

I appreciate that so many Christian filmmakers have, and still are creating stories to introduce Jesus to the world. Some turn out great and some are mediocre. Thankfully this falls in the good category. It's interesting the artistic license each creator brings to their project. The spectrum ranges from the heretical to the divinely inspired word for word renditions. Again, this one holds closer to the exact stories in the Bible, though not word for word, so I put that in the good direction. The perfectionist diehards might point out the whole cast isn't made up of people who look like they grew up in the middle east. Personally I don't get as upset at that as some might. I thought the set design, location, cinematography, music, and a little bit of CGI was really good. The script was compelling as they told a very old story from a slightly different angle. I didn't recognize any of the cast but I thought they did a good job with each of their characters as their arc's unfolded. It was a good movie to kick off the 2025 Easter season and I could see myself watching it again in the future. I read a couple of negative reviews that thought the pacing was slow. Personally I didn't find that to be the case. Another person complained some of the conversations weren't biblical. Well, I can give a pass to that to some extent. A little artistic license didn't ruin the story for me. Yet another person said it was like a TV movie and low budget. I think people who make comments like that have no idea how expensive it is to make a movie and how hard it is to raise the funds. Also, releasing it is theaters first can sometimes boost the chances of making the money back. I personally still like seeing movies on the big screen and this one was created on a big enough scale to look good on the big screen. Hopefully people will also give it a chance once it goes to streaming. The more people support content like this, the more filmmakers will have the funds to keep creating. People complain there isn't enough quality content. There would be if people would support these creators. Lastly there was a complaint that Jesus acted depressed and joyless the whole time. Well, this is covering the last couple of days of Jesus' time on earth and he knew exactly what was going to happen to him. I think it is understandable that he might feel a little sad about it. 1. He is going to leave the people he cares about knowing life on earth can be hard. 2. He knew how he was going to die and horrific is an understatement. If they had written Jesus as the life of the party and happy go lucky the couple of days before his death that would have seemed disingenuous to say the least.

ALTERNATIVE TITLE: JUDAS & PETER.

Alternative title: Judas & Peter.

A different take on the events of the holy week from the perspective of some of the disciples.

The Biblical account of and around the Last Supper was almost lost with a mystical representation of what was going on with Judas.

Overall, this movie should be good for any person familiar with the biblical depiction.

Synopsis: In the days leading to betrayal, a gathering of disciples unravels into a web of secrets and hidden motives. As tensions simmer beneath the surface, trust is tested, and loyalty is questioned. The Last Supper becomes a night where nothing is as it seems, and every glance hides a deeper truth.

Same story, new perspective

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the story that we know so well told from the perspective of the desciples. Instead of a generic narrator telling a chain of events, we hear the thoughts and feelings of Christ's closest followers. Excellent choice of cast. I liked how each of the disciples had a different character look. Excellent cinematography, too. Not just the same ol', same ol'. The actors did a wonderful job and I especially appreciated the portrayal of Judas. He conveyed well the inner turmoil that Judas felt. I also enjoyed watching the cast of local extras. Having spent time in the middle east, it was nice seeing so many authentic people and props.

Who is this movie even for? The director seems completely lost in trying to tell the biblical story of Jesus' journey.

If this was meant for Christians, it fails miserably-there's no real depth, no meaningful religious value, and nothing inspiring. We already know the story well, and this half-baked live-action attempt does nothing but introduce pointless, biblically inaccurate scenes and dialogue.

If this was meant for non-Christians, they'll just be confused. Why is Jesus angry at the prayer area? Why does it seem like He's being damned? There's no context, no proper storytelling, and no effort to make the events understandable. Instead of being enlightening, it just ends up being a mess of random moments that make no sense.

This movie is neither educational nor entertaining-just a complete waste of time.

Really Bad

I'm always up for a good biblical movie, but I wish I would have read the reviews before investing time in this one. I couldn't even get half way through without falling asleep. I guess that's because this movie has been done before only WAY BETTER. You could tell most of the actors were wearing wigs which looked so 1930's and screamed "cheap production". From the first 5 minutes it was obvious that nobody in this movie could actually ACT which definitely contributed to a very dull production. What a snooze fest. If you've seen The Chosen, this movie will really turn you off. So bad. Why did they even bother?

A Worthwhile Addition to Biblical Storytelling

This film is a nice mix of the familiar and the new. The basic story is well-known which can make it challenging to provide fresh perspectives. I appreciated parallels that were drawn in the film between the family's Passover meal and the actual Last Supper as lead by Jesus. Also, showing Peter's denials mixed in with the treatment of Jesus and finally the difference in the responses of Peter and Judas when each realized the enormity of his betrayal. While it may not reach "classic" status on the level of The Passion of the Christ, I will rewatch this one as a source of inspiration in the future. P. S. I also enjoyed the music used in the film.

An descent approach

And is this not enough? I think it is. The director, the screenwriters, the cinematographer and all the contributors to this film, I think, justify the title of my small critical note. And certainly the actors.

I was more moved by Judas (Robert Knepper) and Caiaphas (James Faulkner) who seemed to have a deeper penetration into the whole drama. Also, Peter (James Oliver Wheatley) was adequate and was able to attribute his biblical characteristics, especially his sharp temperament.

Let's not be so strict. An artistic creation does not need to be attached to the letter but to convey the spirit of the Scriptures. And when the artistic result is satisfactory - that is, the director has managed to create the desired mainly in emotion - then we must applaud the effort.

And enjoy an interesting movie.

Mediocre

There is nothing special about this movie. All the characters have English translated names, Jesus, Peter, etc., not their originals: Yehoshua, Cephas, etc. Acting, cinematography, script, are so mediocre. Not a movie that you should see, except you are a devout Christian, Jesus Freak, or somebody who eager to learn Christianity from the basic. The producer or director claims that this movie is historically accurate. But it isn't actually. Its better to watch Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptations of Christ" or probably Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ". Or Mormon cartoon propaganda ia more interesting for me. 😇

Very Moving

I really liked this movie because it was told from the perspective of the apostles, which is different from other movies which center on Jesus (understandable since it really is His story). But The Last Supper focused on the apostles and their struggles, so made it interesting and informative.

I felt the story was well done. Judas's portrayal was very convincing and you can feel his pain and despair. Peter's denial and his subsequent shame was also done well.

It's a great story that is moving without having the gruesome depiction of the crucifixion. It was emotional and perfect for the Easter season.

A let down

I was anticipating the Chosen this isn't it. You might remember Golon Globus movies in the 70s and 80s, they were ripe off movies of popular movies out at the time. Cheap imitations, this struck me like that. Acting was poor and there was no juice to it. It comes out conveniently before the Chosen's season 5, I felt a bit cheated. I would not recommend this movie if you have already feasted on the Chosen. Jesus came across as shallow a fake both in voice and appearance. He looked like he had a wig on. Judus came across as stereotypical of what you would imagine. Not believable. If you have seen old 60s religious movies it really captured that "limp noodle" effect. What for the best please I wish I had.
