Storyline

Six months after the end of World War II, Claire Randall and her husband Frank head to Scotland for a second honeymoon. They've been apart for 5 years with Claire having served as a front line nurse and this is a chance for them to get to know one another again. Frank is researching his own family history and they visit the ruins of Castle Leoch. Frank is particularly pleased when, with the help of a local minister, he comes across letters that mention his 18th century ancestor, Black Jack Randall, a British army officer who served in the area. When Claire goes off on her own and visits the site where they had watched Druid worshipers, she finds herself transported back in time to 1743. There she encounters Frank's ancestor and a handsome young Scot by the name of Jamie. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

The external shots of Castle Leoch are shot at Doune Castle, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Scotland. For the WW2 period external shots, they digitally turned the castle into a ruin. Interiors of both the ruined and living castle were recreated on a set. See more »

I found Outlander via Amazon after it aired but was captured from the very first episode. The characters were engaging and great chemistry between Claire(Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). Tobias Menzies portrayal of Frank/Blackjack was inspired.

After watching the first episode I bought the books and started reading them as I really wanted to compare both.

Both are great and the producers, writers, costume designers have excelled themselves.

Filming in Scotland brought authenticity to the show and it was great to see the country that I love shown in all its glory.
