The premise is simple, two roommates in a sketchy part of LA don't have the rent money (one of them gave it to her boyfriend who used it to buy t-shirts or something - not a spoiler, that's in the previews). Their corrupt landlord threatens them with instant eviction if they can't come up with the $1,500 by 5:00 pm THAT DAY. So they have to find a way to get that money in the next X hours. (There's a time clock that shows up periodically, after each (mis)adventure, letting us know how much time is left - and the time clock changes hilariously about halfway through).
Surprisingly, this is not a raunchy movie. Usually you expect movies with this many stereotypes to be fairly raunchy. But not a lot of sex jokes, drugs jokes, etc. It's a pretty straightforward movie, and surprisingly funny (middle class white guy here, not usually in on a lot of the "po black folk" jokes).
Should be a fun date movie. Great for just escaping from the week. Not for kids, the language can be really harsh, but not gratuitous.
Enjoy.
Palmer and SZA have great chemistry together. SZA in particular, was great. She was funny and charismatic. You are just kind of drawn to her every time she is on screen. Palmer anchors the film and is in virtually every scene and she does a good job.
The film doesn't break any new ground on the "someone's life falls apart over the course of one day as they overcome obstacles to try to keep things in check" genre, but it doesn't have to. It is content to be a lighthearted comedy and accomplishes that goal.
I had no regrets after seeing this.
The plot is probably what you'd expect, given the title. It most certainly is one of them days for the characters involved. The 90 minute run time was a perfect choice, if it went on any longer then it would've dragged - but, thankfully, it didn't. It isn't a deep movie, simply an entertaining one.
One of Them Days is a 2025 American buddy tragicomedy film directed by Lawrence Lamont.
This film is directed by Lawrence Lamont, in his major motion picture debut, and stars Keke Palmer (Nope), SZA (Insecure), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Katt Williams (Friday After Next), and Ray Santiago (Ash vs Evil Dead).
This was a very fun movie. The characters, settings, and humor reminded me of the classic Friday films in many ways. The comedy delivery is subtle, but the payoff is hilarious and clever. The film strikes a nice balance between slapstick, witty one-liners, and situational humor, keeping the laughs coming from the opening scene to the closing credits. It also delivers meaningful, indirect messages about friendship, self-confidence, and resilience, all tied together with a satisfying full-circle ending.
In conclusion, One of Them Days is a refreshing and entertaining addition to the comedy genre. I'd give it a 7/10 and strongly recommend it.

When she leaves the apartment to look for Keshawn all of her hair seems to braided. Even if a comb-over was a possible explanation, the undone section would not be able to be covered up by the braids underneath that were done.
