Having learned from Douglas that the secret of his success is wearing women's slacks Moss buys a pair, which makes him brave and creative. Roy is annoyed that the tiny barista, Troy, is doing a bad job of making his coffee and they argue, after which Troy runs in front of a van. At the same time, Jen accidentally throws coffee over a tramp. Both incidents are captured on camera and then posted on the Internet, turning Jen and Roy into global hate figures. Roy also accompanies girlfriend Alice to her grandfather's funeral but overuses a pepper spray solution to simulate tears of grief. Douglas attempts to limit the damage done by Roy and Jen by going on "The Secret Millionaire" but blows his cover and gets in trouble with the law partying with minors. Moss devises a plan to market the pepper spray and turn his colleagues into heroes. However, it backfires and the IT crowd thinks they're going to have to clear their desks. When Roy is telling the "Small Barista" that he shouldn't be making coffee, the man turns to cross the street and Roy looks right to see the van coming and yells to the man, but when he gets hit by the van he is walking across from the right of the van showing that it was coming from Roys left not right. Roy Trenneman: No, it didn't go well, Jen. It didn't go well at all. I mean, thanks for asking, but no, it's wasn't a success. This wasn't a successful funeral for me.
Jen Barber: Didn't have the required gravitas?
Roy Trenneman: Gravitas? No no. Wasn't very dignified. It wasn't dignified at all, Jen! If I had to pick a word to describe Pip Pop's final journey to the grave, it would be "funny."

The Last Byte: Funny but not all it has been in the past
21 October 2013 | by See all my reviews

With everyone getting successful in other projects (particularly O'Dowd) it is a good thing that they go the cast together even if a whole season was not possible. This final special is not the perfect way for the show to bow out though, since it is not as good as it once was. In particular the plotting jumps around a lot and as such feels fragmented. This isn't a problem if it all works well, but it doesn't and as a result it opens itself to having "good bits" and then less good bits. The ideas are a bit all over the place as well and not all of them work in that way – some are silly but build well while others seem forced and go nowhere.

I did still laugh though – not consistently but enough to make me feel like I enjoyed the episode. The cast are on mostly good form. O'Dowd is very funny but as always Ayoade steals it for me with his Moss. Parkinson has one great moment in the episode but mostly seems out of it. Berry is a disappointment – I usually love his bits but the material isn't there for him this time. Nice to see Fielding in there briefly and there are some other nice throwbacks. Generally though it is not what it was. Worth a look for fans and there are some good laughs, but I could probably have lived without this one extra go round.
