Storyline

Road to Austin, chronicles how Austin, Texas became the Live Music Capital of the World dating from 1835 to present day. This feature documentary builds to a climax as the storyline weaves its way towards a live concert featuring Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, Eric Johnson, Ian McLagan, Joe Ely and many other artists led by musical director, Stephen Bruton. This 75-minute adaptation features a documentary and a 8-song excerpt from the 3 hour concert. Mr. Kristofferson dedicates this film and all of its proceeds to the Stephen Bruton 'Artist Wellness Program' due to Stephen losing his battle to cancer in 2009. Stephen Bruton served as Kris's guitar player and closest friend for over forty years. Written by Anonymous

A "must see" for any true music enthusiast!
26 July 2014 | by atallichetSee all my reviews

I was fortunate enough to see "Road To Austin" during SXSW. After enjoying five full days of music in "The Live Music Capital of The World", I can easy affirm that seeing this film was the highlight of my SXSW 2014! The film takes you through a musical history of Texas from the 1800's to the present day local "Austin music scene", and touching on the many genres that have evolved. There are numerous interviews with Austin celebs and musicians that have helped make the art of music such a powerhouse in Austin. The films highlights are of an amazing night of all the A-list musicians in Austin coming together with the late, great songwriter/producer/actor Stephen Bruton. Any true fan of music will find this film/documentary exciting and enjoyable.
