Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published a story called "Silver Blaze" in 1892. In it, prize-winning racehorse Silver Blaze was missing, his trainer murdered, and the stable boy drugged. This broadcast of Elementary includes the death of one man but the failure of a plot to poison prize-winning racehorse Silver Blaze, now retired to stud. The remaining elements of the short story are not used.

Goofs
When Holmes and Watson are watching the recorded interview, the timestamp says 13:46:46. The camera then cuts to another angle, and when it cuts back to the recording again, the timestamp says 13:46:44, even though the recording has not been paused or rewound. Then Watson pauses the tape after only a few more seconds, but when Holmes resumes the playback, the timestamp says 13:47:30, or forty-five seconds later.
